Gay Christians believe the Bible

Rick Brentlinger Answers -

It is not possible to give you a three sentence answer to such an excellent question. I encourage you to click on the NavBar buttons under, What The Bible Says, and begin reading.

The purpose of this website is to help gay and lesbian Christians reconcile being gay with what the Bible says. We've provided hundreds of pages of Biblical information on this website plus answered more than 80 questions to help GLBTs come to terms with being both gay and Christian.

Suffice it to say that the Bible never says the mean things it is alleged to say about gays and lesbians.

Perhaps the best place to start is my personal testimony, with lots of Links to lots of scripture and honest explanation about what the Bible says.

God saves gays but do you think he wants them to stay gay?

Is there any evidence of an actual gay marriage in the Bible?

Why do homosexuals believe that homosexuality is not a sin?

Does the Bible say that homosexuals will go to hell?

Ed's original question:

"I have been a christian for a long time and have struggled with being gay. How can anyone reconcile being a gay christian when the bible has so many verses teaching this to be a sin and people who practice this life style are not, as I understand scripture, truly born again?"

Where is the sin?
by: Anonymous

I am trying to figure out where the sin is in being gay. Everyone always says "the Bible" does not condone marriage between two men or two women. I think these are rules from a society 2000 plus years ago. Our society has changed other rules so why not this one? Christians eat meat and cheese together, we do not cover our heads anymore, we eat pig and catfish and shellfish, women have equal rights (almost) and are not considered property. I could go on and on. Additionally "rules" change by religion. It was only 150 years ago that the pope was declared to be without sin and a few years ago that eating meat on Friday is no longer a sin.

I have an email into my minister to tell me what sins the Bible lists. I don't think being gay is there. If the sexual act that men do when they are gay is the sin then there are a lot of men/women couples just as guilty.

Rick's comment: You make some good points. I do not believe that the Bible, in context, identifies being gay as sinful. Anti-gay Christians must take verses out of context and ignore the context to teach their anti-gay theories.

I hope you will explore this website. We offer lots of high-quality information for FREE and are read in 185 countries around the world. May God bless you abundantly as you walk the path of His purpose for your life.

New Testament
by: Anonymous

So you are saying the whole New Testament doesn't apply either?Since it is in the New Testament along with the Book of Revelation. So we should ignore that as well? Oh I get it, we are picking and choosing what parts of the Bible to follow because they're old and don't make us feel warm and fuzzy inside. By those rules, we shouldn't listen to the Ten Commandments. The Bible specifically says homosexuality is wrong along with bestiality

Romans 1:26-27 - "Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion." Just accept it before it's too late.

Rick's comment: Shame on you for refusing to consider what the Bible says in context. Shame on you for making up a straw man argument I've never made, as if your silly argument represents my belief.

And shame on you for ignoring what Christians have believed for thousands of years about Romans 1, that it speaks of temple prostitutes. Your bluster and outrage will not pass muster at the judgment seat of Christ IF you make it there.

I find it amusing that you lack courage to put your name with your comments.

Romans 1
by: chris hortman

What part of Romans 1 dont you understand?
I played in the bars and honky tonks drinking and raising hell. Its called sin! When I repented to Jesus and asked him to be my Lord and Saviour I left that sinful lifestyle behind and turned from it.

Rick's comment: Being gay is not like raising hell in bars and honky tonks. Is it even necessary for me to point out that nothing on my website defends raising hell in bars and honky tonks? Is there anything on this website which defends raising hell in bars and honky tonks? Really Chris, is there?

Jesus can help you turn from the homosexual lifestyle but only if you want to truly Follow Christ.

Rick's comment: The homosexual lifestyle? Why do you assume that the homosexual lifestyle = raising hell in bars and honky tonks? I have difficulty taking you seriously when you make such silly statements.

Can I can continue being a drunk now that I've received Christ when it says that drunkards will not enter the kingdom of heaven. Drinking is just one of the sins. I struggle with but with Jesus I will overcome, his grace, mercy and Love is more than efficeint!

Rick's comment: If you've received Jesus Christ and got saved, that is wonderful! I encourage you to do more reading and definitely more Bible study. You are confusing being gay with living a sinful lifestyle in rebellion against God.

Fighting my homosexuality as a Christian
by: John Doe

For many years, since puberty I have hated even the idea of being gay. I initially denied the idea of it, thinking I would grow out of it (or more hoping so) hoping I would start liking girls and not guys. As I kept growing through adolescence hating myself, living in denial and hoping it was just a phase. I don't want to be gay, I find the idea revolting and yet young slim men sexually attract me.

I do believe its a sin. I have read the Bible, I'm an active Christian and can find no interpretation that is not picking and choosing to suit me. (NOBODY KNOWS I'M GAY) except God and he remains quite on the subject. My family hate gays, my friends will not accept me either. "Love the person, hate the deed"

This is the first time I've ever typed up such and will probably be the last. I type from around the world and still can put a name to this. I only recently started to accept that I cannot change who/what I am. Even now tears run down my face. I hate myself, I'm 25 and horribly over weigh, always depressed (which no one knows) and living in hell.

I ask myself would my passing make any difference. I believe not, I believe that God forgives my sins and what would it matter if I embraced him 40 years earlier.

I post this not for help but more that I don't pass without nobody knowing my pain.

Yours in Christ, John Doe

Rick's comment: Please read your way through our Gay Christian FAQ to help yourself shed the false teaching you've received about being gay.

God has joy and health and peace of mind for you if you'll believe what He says in the Bible instead of believing the anti-gay propaganda you heard growing up.

What if we are wrong?
by: Tim Bailey

I am really struggling to know is it possible to be Gay and Christian. A point was brought to my attention last night and it is making me really think myself. My heart is so heavy right now. I'm experiencing a deep sadness. What if we of the GLBT community aren't any different than the people outside Noah's Ark when the door closed. We thought we were right but now the door is closed and its too late for us now.

Rick's comment: Hi Tim - God never rips verses out of context to condemn like ALL anti-gay Christians do. When someone rips verses out of context to condemn you or when they try to lay an emotional guilt trip on you about being gay, that is not from God.

If you have received Jesus Christ as your Savior from sin, then you are as saved as you can possibly be. The only way to work through the deep sadness you are feeling is to believe what the Bible says in context. To believe it, you need to learn what the Bible says in context. That is the only way to know if we are wrong or not.

God has peace and joy and blessing for us when we believe His written word. This website exists to correct the vicious false teaching of the anti-gay crowd. Please do not let them snow you with false statistics and false teaching and false analogies. Read and study and get familiar with the issues. Empower yourself with truth. God bless you Tim.

Being Gay
by: Anonymous

I think that being is gay isn't any worse then any other sins, i hate how much people are making being gay out to be this huge sin, all sin is the same in Gods eye! But i do think it is a sin! it says it many times in the bible one time is 1 Corinthians 6:9-10, i feel like that is pretty straight forward and i would like to hear what you think of that verse.

Rick's comment: The Bible never says being gay is a sin. The context of ALL the clobber passages is temple prostitution and/or temple prostitutes.

1 Cor 6:9 - short video and helpful info

In the Bible, arsenokoitai never means gay

Leviticus 18:22 and 20:13

Leviticus 17:7 and Goat Idols, part 1

Hope these videos and info helps unravel this topic for you.

We'll never be accepted in the church
by: Adam O'Neill

I was brought up in a strict Irish Catholic family. I knew I was Gay early on and even had a crush on my younger brother. I contemplated the priesthood as I wanted to be celibate but dropped out after friends began to suspect and I felt mistrusted and guilty. I was celibate for 11 years but then met someone so left the church. He enticed me back converting to Christianity himself but within a year had left me for someone else and then admitted to me he was never a true Christian but was so desperate to please me at the time he lied and cheated and even pretended to be in the spirit on several occasions. Bless you for trying to make a case out for us but I know in my heart (always have) that we are damned for what we are unless we change. It is not what it says in the Bible that worries me so much it is just this overwhelming feeling of guilt that I am different and have unnatural tendencies. The longer I was with Stephen the more depraved I became and I forced him out in the end by refusing his demands as I knew it was wrong what we were doing. I am celibate again now (not by inclination but just because I am not handsome and do not go out) but still feel unhappy at my church as I know people suspect and distrust me. If I were brave enough to be castrated I would just to show them and maybe that's what we need to do. I watched all your videos and advice but the fact remains the church overwhelmingly reviles what we do and I get depressed because I know the church is right and we just kid ourselves that we are going to be saved by interpreting things how we want.

Rick's comment: Adam, this website exists to tell the truth and correct the lies and mis-information put out by the Catholic Church and Baptists and others who are anti-gay.

I hope you will continue to read and study. Until you get to the place where you accept what the Bible says in context, instead of the lies of the Catholic Church, you will be in continual turmoil.

Don't be deceived
by: David

Any time a person performs a sexual act outside of marriage it is sin. Please don't listen to someone who is trying to explain these scriptures away by saying " their taken out of context" perhaps they need to study the many passages condemning the acts of sexual perversion not just gay but adultery bestiality ect. There is hope for you as well as for the rest of us who are just one weak moment away from where you are. God is not angry with you he loves very much and see

Rick's comment: Thanks for commenting. Please keep studying and please read, memorize and obey 2 Timothy 2:15. Many thanks!

no one knows
by: Matt

I am gay and Christian, struggled most of my life thinking I was going to hell because of the church. I Have been open with the church about my homosexuality and deeply regretted it. All it got me was hurt and rejected.

I am 31 now and just dealt with this yesterday in my church, again. My pastor called me up and basically prayed against me being homosexual in an indirect way. I have accepted my homosexuality and choose to leave that part of me outside the church but people suspect because I am very handsome and have no girlfriend or children at 31.

I love how they say pray and don't acknowledge the feelings, it's not going to go away overnight lol. Let's put this into perspective. Hey, straight pastor, pray and don't acknowledge your feelings towards your wife and other women, it won't happen overnight but it'll go away lol.

The truth is, no one has the answer and while I believe homosexuality is not intended to exist in Gods perfect world, neither is tigers slaughtering an innocent animal for food. The bible says there is NO condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. Jesus never spoke a word in the bible about homosexuality - so I say my friends; do not condemn yourselves, you are perfect through Christ Jesus!

If you so choose to live an abstinent lifestyle then know that it is the highest sacrifice one can offer in the name of the Lord. To give up your heart and desire to truely love another person, I truley respect you for such a sacrifice. God loves us all, dont let satan speak to you through the church (as he does regularly) the people will never understand, we gay christians are on a much higher walk. God Bless you all, He is truly smiling at you :)

Genuinely Interested
by: Lesley

First of all, I'm an atheist, so I add my comments from a humanistic perspective. Why not be a deist, as opposed to a theist? Why not have a personal relationship with god, without all the biblical trappings? Clearly, many many parts of the bible have foul preoccupations - with slavery, genocide, sexual behaviour, violence, misogyny - the god of the old testament is truly one of the most judgmental, foul, manifestations of the worst of human nature and the concepts of original sin, a cosmic imbalance that only the blood of a part of the godhead can redeem, is not much better.

Why not just focus on a god of love, who {may} inspire one to good behaviour, and the concept of divine peace when you die? What good can be found in the bible that cannot be found in humanism? And clearly people will and do quote parts of the bible that seem to condemn any sexual behaviour outside of marriage, glossing over the parts where daughters are regularly giving to be gang-raped etc etc.

Rick's comment: Hi Lesley - I believe in God because He has revealed Himself to us in the Bible and in creation. I do not buy into the idea that nothing created everything so I cannot be an atheist.

Atheism and theism are impersonal. Both have DIY gods who closely resemble the people who imagine them. Yes, atheists worship gods too - it may be sex or money or intellect or education or green living or something else.

The God of the Bible is not as you've described Him. Instead He is a loving personal Savior who created you to have a loving personal relationship with Him. I hope your will explore His desire to establish relationship with you by reading the New Testament because in the pages of that precious book, God will speak to your heart so clearly that it will startle and delight you. Wishing you the best!

You and this site are a joke
by: dabe

You are a joke and this site is as well, You live in fear, I have and know many gay women and men, very close friends, they see your reasoning as "confused and altered to your personal beliefs"

they are christians struggling with "practices" that jesus does not condone in the bible.as well straight christians struggle too.its called learing to be obedient.

Rick's comment: LOL & SMH - it is time for you and your friends to read, memorize and obey 2 Timothy 2:15. If you are saved, you will stand before God some day.

"So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God. Let us not therefore judge one another any more..." Romans 14:10-11

your brother
by: tommy

Would you please post my comments?
Paul's warning not to be deceived is very appropriate even today, for some homosexual theologians would have us believe that Paul was only condemning male prostitution. Whereas the first word (malakos) does properly speak of a male prostitute, the second word (arsenokoitai) describes ANY sort of homosexual conduct. Despite such efforts to twist the Scriptures and deceive many, the Word of God is clear: those who CONTINUE to engage in homosexuality will not inherit the kingdom of God! THANK YOU.

Rick's comment: Hi Tommy - you are in great error and your false teaching demonstrates that. Are you honest enough to admit that you have never studied this in depth?

You have no idea which Hebrew and Greek words are used in the clobber passages. You have no idea what the biblical cultural doctrinal historical linguistic literary political and religious context was.

Yet from your position of ignorance, you teach your false doctrine. Wouldn't you feel better if you obeyed 2 Timothy 2:15 and studied BEFORE trying to teach the Bible?

confused
by: glen

The fact that lott was trying to give his daughters to the homosexuals (sodomites) is simple proof of their intensions to have sex with the angels (men). anything to give in to their animal lust, but they were gay and not intrested, the homosexuals even insisted they were going to have sex with lott!

Hospitality? Are you kidding? Are you seriously trying to teaching this stuff or is this a joke? Clobber passages?
Really! Are you a comedian? Who honestly is that stupid to believe you buddy?

"But I fear, lest somehow, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, so your minds may be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.  For if he who comes preaches another Jesus whom we have not preached, or if you receive a different spirit which you have not received, or a different gospel which you have not accepted—you may well put up with it." Meditate on this scripture sir.

Rick's comment: Hi Glen - the Sodom story is about attempted gang rape, not gays or lesbians. Lot is the only person who ended up getting raped in Genesis 19, by his daughters after they got him drunk.

Homosexuals are never called sodomites in the Bible. In the Bible, a sodomite is a pagan who uses same sex rituals to worship the fertility goddess.

You don't like the idea that the Sodom story is about hospitality and lack of hospitality. That indicates you have never studied Genesis 19. If you took the time to study, you would discover that lack of hospitality is the issue almost every time Sodom is mentioned in the rest of the Old Testament. It is not a big deal to you but lack of hospitality IS a big deal to God.

Inhospitality or homosexuality - what was the sin of Sodom?

What was the sin of Sodom?

I am not preaching another Jesus or a different spirit or a different gospel. I am teaching the Bible IN CONTEXT. Will you agree to read, memorize and obey 2 Timothy 2:15 from now on? Many thanks.

what?
by: bernard

The sodom SCRIPTURE is about HOMOSEXUALS attempting gang rape on the angels! You almost got it right,,, Nothing to do about hospitality as you try so hard to make others believe.

Please agree here and now to better educate your self in the KING James bible instead of the QUEEN JAMES. this is a appaling attempt to make what is BLACK,,,WHITE! What lotts daughters try to achieve later is a feable attempt on your part to distract from the point that you do admit that there was an attempt of GANG RAPE by the MEN OF SODOM ON THE ANGELS,,,,NOT FORCABLE HOSPITALITY!

I am gay, I am a christian,, Will you please post my comments here, And yes, I have and will read 2 tim. 2:15 over and over.
Thank you for this site.

Rick's comment: Hi Bernard - the Bible never says that anyone in Sodom was gay, that anyone in Sodom had homo sex, that anyone in Sodom got gay married, that anyone in Sodom was homosexual. Anyone who doesn't know the difference between attempted gang rape and a loving gay relationship needs to do some serious study.

I'm not sure why you prefer to ignore the lack of hospitality aspect - that the men of Sodom refused to show hospitality to God's messengers just as some Jews refused to show hospitality to Jesus' disciples - since Jesus Himself referenced inhospitality in connection to Sodom in Matthew 10:11-15, Mark 6:7-11, Luke 10:1-12.

Homosexuality is paganism! Do you need some more time to study? Im just saying,,,, Your response, comments are just as confused as your life choices!

Are you correcting and teaching others here on the bible?
PLEASE AGREE to all of us here that come to your postings for hummer that you will either purchase or have donated to you proper reading glasses so you may see that you are reading your bible UPSIDE DOWN! I will patiently await your response. Jesusfirst

Rick's comment: Strange how Bernard and Manuel have:

1. the same writing style

2. both mistype multiple commas ,,,,, AND

3. both use the same phrase (Please agree...). Bernard says he is gay - does that mean Manuel is gay too, Hmmmm?

Haha I think you're trying to spoof me and my loyal readers - you "guys" are too funny, LOL. Did you bother to click on the links in Glen's March 04 2014 comment? You're not doing yourself a favor by ignoring truth.

When you ignore truth, it comes back to bite you, if you don't mind me saying so. I beg you, Do NOT be a low-information Christian. You're only hurting yourself.

sodom story
by: noel

So is the sodom story about attempted gang rape or The sodom story about lack of hospitality? The men of sodom were blinded because of attempted gang rape or lack of hospitality?
Sorry im not as smart as use but this seems very confusing trying to follow you here. The k.j seems clear that they were punished for their wicked behavior. (I agree with your point on gang rape/ men angels with human men). It look like from your comment to "glen" your saying two different things.

If you respond back Would u please try not to belittle me or be condescending like u do others?as a christian i wouldnt think jesus approves of u responding in such a manner to other christians in that way.please try to take the higher road .You do come off as being very arrogant instead of having humility that the holy spirit would be providing for you. Again (my christian opinion) im sure you appreciate. God bless.

Rick's comment: Hi Noel - here is how to understand the Sodom story.

1. Read Genesis 19 out loud at least four or five times.

2. Notice that the Bible never mentions gays or lesbians in Sodom.

3. Notice that Genesis 19 is not about two gay guys or two gay gals dating, falling in love and covenanting to spend their lives together as a couple.

4. Notice that Genesis 19 is not about gay marriage.

5. Notice that Genesis 19 is about a crowd attempting to RAPE two angelic visitors. Rape is violent sexual assault and has nothing to do with being gay.

6. Notice that wherever Sodom is mentioned in the Bible, never does the Bible say the problem in Sodom was gays and lesbians or homosexuals.

7. Ancient Judaism did not view the sin of Sodom as homosexuality.

The Babylonian Talmud on Sodom.

by: paul

Are you not going to respond to my comments?

Rick's comment: Yes, of course. My response is: please carefully reread what I have written on this website (use our Search feature if necessary AND click on the text links for additional info) and then obey 2 Timothy 2:15 and do your own research. When you have invested the time, effort and study to get up to speed on this topic, most of your questions will already be answered. If you have more questions at that point, please ask. Many thanks.

Paul does a drive-by spoofing
by: paul

Ok rick b, I took your advice, read up on all your links, did my own research, and i am obeying 2 timothy but i still have the following questions. would you be so kind to help instruct me.? In a homosexual marriage who is the husband who is the wife? who makes that choice...

Rick's comment: Wow Paul - you did all of that in less than 24 hours? I am seriously in awe of your intellectual acumen! Or perhaps as usual, you are spoofing me again, LOL. Paul, I'm a serious guy so I know you have not read my website with comprehension, you have not done any research or study on your own and you do not have a heart open to God's truth and the leading of the Holy Spirit.

i have friends that come to post comments and you ignore them. why do you do this? are you picking and choosing comments that don't "spoof"you? What has you in fear rick? I'm not trying to be confrontational but you really are confused. the holy spirit what not have done this to you. don't worry about posting some or all of my comment here this is for you to pray about but if you want to respond only here at your site to me about this your more than welcome, just a thought, ignoring is not being very hospitable!

Rick's comment: LOL Paul - you and your spoofing friends are a hoot! Do you guys agree with me that attempted gang rape in Genesis 19 is ALSO not hospitable?

If you really want an answer to your question, Who is the husband, who is the wife, please locate the nearest gay church or gay bar, go inside and ask your question there. I'm sure people will be friendly to you, will gladly answer and if you ask a number of people, you'll get a number of answers. Many thanks for another drive-by spoofing.

My heavenly father judges your perverted wickedness
by: paul

Just what i thought.you avoid questions, twist scriptures, and you are a ENEMY of christ!
You have the spirit of the antichrist.no i will not attend places that are evil ,your dark blinded heart would advise someone to the den of devils.you make light of god`s word because your father satan encourages you to.what fellowship should i have with your darkness?follow your evil ,corrupted, sexual desires you and your loyal subscribers .when my heavenly father judges your perverted wickedness we will see then how much "spoofing"and mocking you will show when you stand before him.YOUR FEAR KEEPS YOU FROM POSTING REBUTALS TO THE LIES YOU TRY TO TEACH! You are gutless without courage and lack any spiritual fortitude! you are false and your ignorance of the scriptures is transparent.if you are a" man of god "as you say post all of this comment "entirety" and respond back with true scriptures?i know you wont, you know you wont.why?your not bold and intelligent enough to openly respond back to the spirit of god!injoy living in this cesspool of filth you call a website.yes you do teach.you teach death and confusion.you live under a curse.and all who choose your opinions over the true spirit of christ are cursed with you.your a vessel appointed for destruction.your evil was spoke of by the prophets and apostles, your perversions you teach are not new .you have no unique thoughts on your own.you plagiarize, and regurgitate old hypocrisies!

Rick's comment: This is SO interesting. You claim to have read up on all my links yet you keep asking me for verses which prove... yada, yada, yada (Hebrew for 'ya know"). I think the real Paul is demonstrated in your comment. You are angry, unable to muster a biblical argument to support your views.

So you utilize the psychological phenomenon of transference and accuse me of what you are doing. No problem dear Paul. I am saved, sanctified and filled with the Holy Ghost. I walk in the Spirit every day of my life, Galatians 5:16 and I have eternal security in my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, as a present possession.

Paul, I wish you God's best and most of all, a heart hungry for God's truth as it is in Jesus. Many thanks!

Laughable
by: Matt

These comments are everyone's own perceptions of God's word. This thread has turned into a pointless debate. If I was Jesus I'd be laughing at all of you, as if any of you know what your talking about.

Just admit that you know nothing and are nothing without Christ. If you think homosexuals are going to hell then fine, regulate your own sexual sins, the fact that your even on this site shows you have some struggle going on. But don't judge other people - apply God's word to yourself. The more you think you know the dumber you become.

God says in His Word
by: Terry

All I will say is this; 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.

Rick's comment: Hi Terry - the Greek text does not say and has NEVER said "men who have sex with men" in 1 Cor 6:9. That is a false interpretation from the translators of the NIV, not a translation.

The Greek text of 1 Cor 6:9

Arsenokoitai in 1 Cor 6:9

Greek is correct on this
by: arthur

ef·fem·i·nate iˈfemənət/ adjective 1. (of a man) having or showing characteristics regarded as typical of a woman; unmanly.

homosexuality(Effeminate; Abusers of themselves with mankind) was widespread in the time of the Old and New Testaments (yes, I imagine Jesus ran into a few since he had come to save sinners, not those already saved). Many of the fertility cults allowed for not only male-female temple prostitutes but also male-male and man-animal and every other combination imaginable or unimaginable. They also allowed for non-sexual cult rituals that were more atrocious than the sexual practices (if that's possible) such as human sacrifices that included children (Molech through the fertility goddess Ashteroth). As is the case today it was not unusual to see a homosexual convert to Christianity. We need only read the passage 1 corinthians 6 again to understand this and understand the context Paul wrote it in. He wrote this list of sins to the Gentile world in Corinth. A list of sins that would've been prevalent in a people coming from that culture to become part of the Church.

Rick's comment: Hi Arthur - the Greek is correct? And yet you use no Greek. How strange. Malakoi - Effeminate as used in 1 Cor 6:9, referred to a heterosexual man who shaved his beard, colored his hair and prettied himself up to attract women. Malakoi and arsenokoitai were rarely, if ever, used to indicate what we now refer to as a homosexual.

Really, you need to do a lot more study. You have far to high an estimation of your own knowledge, precisely because you are not a student of history and not a student of the word of God. Even a modest amount of study would disabuse you of your false beliefs about 1 Cor 6:9.

Confusion
by: seth t.

In the Epistle to the Romans 1:26-27 Paul writes: “For this reason [idolatry] God gave them up to passions of dishonor; for even their females exchanged the natural use for that which is contrary to nature, and likewise also the males, having left the natural use of the female, were inflamed by their lust for one another, males with males, committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the recompense which was fitting for their error.”

This has been described by Hilborn as "the most important biblical reference for the homosexuality debate..."

Rick's comment: Hi Seth - I don't want to post quotations from Wikipedia here. Google's spiders don't like that.

1 cor.6:9 - Wycliffe Bible "Whether ye know not, that wicked men shall not wield the kingdom of God? Do not ye err; neither lechers, neither men that serve maumets [neither men serving to idols], neither adulterers, neither lechers against kind, neither they that do lechery with men"

King James "Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind"

Amplified : "Do not be deceived (misled): neither the impure and immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor those who participate in homosexuality"

Was jesus a homosexual?
by: anonymous

There was leaning on Jesus' bosom one of his disciples, whom Jesus loved." John 13:23-25

Rick, Does this verse mean jesus was a homosexual ?

Rick's comment: No dear, that is not what this verse conveys. The Bible does not tell us whether Jesus was heterosexual or homosexual.

I suppose there are some gays who will not believe in Jesus if He isn't a gay Savior. And I suppose there are some heteros who would not believe in Jesus if they thought He was gay.

I am happy to know that Jesus is my Savior from sin and from hell regardless His sexual orientation. Do you know Jesus and His wonderful salvation?

From what i have read from the bible and going to church i've read and been told it is wrong to be gay. i struggle with being gay. do i need to be married for it to be right with god or is it wrong to be gay and single? God bless.

Rick's comment: Thanks for the good questions. It is NOT wrong to be gay. The verses in the Bible so often used to condemn gays are not talking about gays. They are talking about shrine prostitutes who used sex to worship pagan gods.

I believe God intends most of us to have an orientation compatible partner, 1 Corinthians 7:1-9, instead of being single. In His own time, God will bring that to pass in your life or He will show you that He intends you to be single for your good and His glory.

This website has lots of helpful information if you are willing to read and learn. Many thanks for stopping by.

Truth?
by: anonymous

We know that the law is good if one uses it properly.  We also know that the law is made not for the righteous but for lawbreakers and rebels, the ungodly and sinful...

Homosexuality originates from paganism (lack of hospitality to God) This is why he destroyed sodom. Homosexuality practices will always be cursed as well as others who practice sexually immoral life styles.

Rick would you be willing to post this comment on your site for others to see the truth or would you rather hide this comment and allow others to believe a lie?

Rick's comment: Wow, why are you anti-gay commenters afraid to put your real name with your un-informed opinions? Would it hurt you to study the Bible on your own so you can learn the truth? Do you ever have a desire to read, memorize and obey 2 Timothy 2:15 in the old King James Bible?

understanding please
by: A.

...The men turned away and went toward Sodom... But Lot insisted so strongly that they did go with him and entered his house. He prepared a meal for them, baking bread without yeast, and they ate. Before they had gone to bed, all the men from every part of the city of Sodom—both young and old—surrounded the house.  They called to Lot, “Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us so that we may know them carnaly.

Hello I'm a gay man and found this site. After reading the scriptures about sodom when the angels first spoke to Abraham, then about Lot.

Q#1 - are you saying that when the bible says lack of righteousness it should read hospitality? in another words the scriptures here are wrong?

Q#2 - the men of sodom from what I have read wanted to be hospitable to the angels but Lot wouldn't let the men of sodom in his house. wouldn't that mean that it was Lot lacking hospitality or righteousness? If I could find a BIBLE that is worded like that I would be fine it's taking another's opinion about this that is bothersome.

Q#3 - the angels blinded all the men in the city for not showing them hospitality?

Q#4 - revelation states that god will destroy the earth because of the antichrist right? is he also this angry in revelation because of the lack of hospitality in the future? Sorry for so many questions, being gay and going to church is difficult for me.

Rick's comment: Q#1 - No, I am saying that when the human authors of the OT and Jesus Himself in the NT mention Sodom, lack of hospitality on the part of the men of Sodom is a big part of the equation.

Lack of hospitality in Genesis 19

Inhospitality in Sodom

Loving strangers defines hospitality

Q#2 - Please reread Genesis 19 in the old KJV. The men of Sodom wanted to gang rape the angels, not show them hospitality.

Q#3 - Yes and for wanting to gang rape the angel visitors.

Q#4 - No, God will make a new heavens and a new earth wherein dwelleth righteousness because sin has contaminated the present earth.

What must I do to be saved?

pagans?
by: raquel

Leviticus 18:22 - You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination.

Leviticus 20:13 - If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination; they shall surely be put to death; their blood is upon them.

Are these verses considered clobber passages? Rick's comment: Yes.

Are these men in these passages pagans or are they for Israelites or both? Rick's comment: The prohibitions are aimed at the children of Israel, see Lev 18:3 and 20:2, but includes pagan worshipers of false gods and goddesses if the children of Israel continue to worship goat idols or goat demons, Lev 17:7, and false gods and goddesses once they are in the promised land.

Is this refering to unmarried men or both? Rick's comment: Both.

Are these passages not referring to men having sex or is it just lying next to each other? Rick's comment: It is referring to sex.

Thank you so much. There is so much confusion about all this.

god and government
by: norma

The basic fact of life is that only the sexual relationship between a man and a woman has the ability to produce children. Now, not every marriage produces children and not every child is born to married parents, but every child certainly has a mother and a father. Government licenses the relationship between a man and a woman who choose to commit themselves to one another in the hope that any potential children they produce will be cared for and provided for by the two people who brought them into the world and those children will reproduce and carry on their genes. This is government’s most efficient and least intrusive way of encouraging responsible parenting and stable families and environments for children.

Basically, our government thinks about marriage like this simple line of logic:

1. Men & Women have sex.

2. Sex makes babies.

3. Babies need someone to care for them.

Do you agree Rick?

Rick's comment: Hi Norma - Okay yet in modern society, life doesn't always work out that way. Many grandparents are raising their grandchildren because their crack or meth addicted children are in jail or prison or on the street.

"Preliminary data indicate that 40.7 percent of all 2012 births were out-of-wedlock, which is appalling, and there are vast differences among racial and ethnic groups. Among non-Hispanic blacks, the figure is highest, at 72.2 percent; for American Indians/Alaska Natives, it’s 66.9 percent; 53.5 percent for Hispanics; 29.4 percent for non-Hispanic whites; and a mere 17.1 percent for Asians/Pacific Islanders." Out of wedlock births.

Many gays and lesbians have biological children because a pastor told them: Get married to a woman or get married to a man. Having sex will help you stop being gay. When that horrific advice did not work out and they divorced, the gay or lesbian still had bio-children.

There are 400,540 children awaiting adoption in the USA right now who would love to have a family even if it is two dads or two moms.

Many heroes of the faith grew up in polygamous families in the Old Testament. Polygamy was the cultural norm back then and God worked in people's hearts in that norm. Today gay marriage is the cultural norm. God can work in gay families to raise wonderful well-adjusted children just like He did in polygamous families.

One of the biggest impediments to that happening is the virulent vitriolic hatred from right wing Catholics and professing christians who love to demonize gays and lesbians. Fortunately that vitriol is not part of many Christians in the younger generation.

polygamy

Today gay marriage is the cultural norm. God can work in gay families to raise wonderful well-adjusted children just like He did in polygamous families.

God did not destroy or speak against polygamy in the o.t Rick however he did against homosexuality (two men laying with each other or women) .it is your opinion that "gay marriage is the cultural norm"statistically hetero.marriage is the normal sir in america.i do agree with the fact that there are alot of gay women and men who would make better parents than "straight" couples but i dissagree with your opinion of that being todays normal or that it should ever take the place of straight couples in a natural family environment.

Rick's comment: Hi Kieth gerra - the point is that God deals with the culture as He finds it. God did not immediately stamp out polygamy or slavery. He dealt with the culture as He found it. Gay marriage is not the cultural norm everywhere but it is now legal in 16 states and a number of countries around the world.

You wrote: "i do agree with the fact that there are alot of gay women and men who would make better parents than "straight" couples..."

Okay, since gay marriage is legal in 16 states right now, gay couples in those states have the legal right to adopt children. And gay people have always had the legal right to have biological children.

We need to exercise common sense about this topic and recognize that gay or lesbian couples can be excellent parents. God's amazing grace includes gays and lesbians.

common sense
by: james h.

You wrote: "We need to exercise common sense about this topic and recognize that gay or lesbian couples can be excellent parents. God's amazing grace includes gays and lesbians."

Heres the thing ,yes it might be tempting to want to read or see into something when theres not.unless the bible specifically says "for lack of hospitality" or any thing else you might want to read into the word if it is not there then its not there.i understand what is being said when you or whom ever says "it was their customs etc."at that time.common sense must prevail here.god destroys citys because of lack of hospitality? Through out the bible their are hundreds of examples of lack of hospitality but did god destroy those cities? No he didnt.can you say he would for unrighteousness?yes.would that include lack of hospitality. ..i dont find" unrighteous hospitality" and gods destruction parallel with each other unless you are promoting a certain agenda. Point is this.please as christians let us stick to what the scriptures read.if the customs were not practicing hospitality and that would cause god to destroy the inhabitants im sure the bible would be very clear about that without trying to make it say something that it doesent.

Rick's comment: Hi James - there are multiple reasons given for the destruction of Sodom and the cities of the plain. Inhospitality is just one reason. Nowhere in the Bible is homosexuality given as a reason why God destroyed Sodom. That is the point.

You speak of an agenda yet which side is really pushing an agenda? Truth and historical facts support the gay Christian viewpoint. Leading anti-gay Christian scholars admit that.

You said: - "You speak of an agenda yet which side is really pushing an agenda? Truth and historical facts support the gay Christian viewpoint. Leading anti-gay Christian scholars admit that."

Truth and historical facts? yes the bible is truth with historical facts to trust and believe just as it is written. leading (minority) anti-gay christian scholar most likely promoting this agenda for a larger audiences and offerings, tithes, etc.

I am not "anti-gay" - a person should make their own free well choice i believe god promotes choice because of love however the bible did not then or now condone such sexual behavior. If the bible did not have any prohibitions on such, true christians "majority" would not find issue with practicing homosexuals.

Todays politically correct society wants this to be normal, fine, but it is not biblical. Historically societies that go off on their own without the true christian god will fail. protestants that founded this country did so to make america a christian utopia. Nothing historically unfourtanetly ever included homosexuality.

Was Paul arguing for God's creative order?
by: frank russo

Paul appealed to what is "natural"(physis) to contrast natural sexual relations, men with women with same- sex acts. His reasoning is not soley biological, however. Rather, the problem is people abandoning God's creative order. Those engaging in homosexuality are not simply abandoning what is ok "natural", biologically speaking; they are rejecting the way God intended all of his creation to operate.

Rick's comment: Hi Frank - you have expressed a 21st century view of Romans 1. Yet Christians closest to when Paul wrote Romans understood Paul to be describing shrine prostitution in worship of the fertility goddess. The shrine prostitution view is the view of early Christians and many commentators for the last 2000 years. These links provide further info.

Aristides and Paul.

Cybele and Romans 1.

The language Paul used also points to shrine prostitution instead of a negative blast at lesbians and gays. For example:

What does akatharsian mean in Romans 1?

What words could Paul have used if he intended to condemn homosexuality?

Paul was not discussing pederastic or homosexual acts merely in connection with idol worship(1 co 6:9-11),but instead was saying that human beings are created for natural, heterosexual relationships - the only kind of sexual relationships the bible recognizes as acceptable.

Rick's comment: I partly agree with you, as I explain on this page. How can we be sure what Paul was talking about in Romans 1?

However, when you say "that human beings are created for natural, heterosexual relationships - the only kind of sexual relationships the bible recognizes as acceptable," that is the complementarity argument, based on the preconceptions you bring to the discussion. It is not something the Bible says or implies.

Does Deuteronomy 22:5 apply to gay married couples?
by: a

Does this scripture verse apply to todays gay marriage couple?

“A woman shall not wear a man's garment, nor shall a man put on a woman's cloak, for whoever does these things is an abomination to the Lord your God."

Im going to guess either you are ignoring the comment until you have an answer. Im sure you have a very simple reasoning to this question for today.

#1 it applys to pagan, idolatry, etc.not todays christian gay marriage.

#2 i have a anti-gay agenda,etc.

#3 it was for the Israelites of that day, does not apply now, etc.

#4 whatever you reasoning is if you do reply back im sure it will come from a minority of so called theologians that are pro-gay marriage and simply put not truely scriptual. Im looking forward to read how you will twist scripture into meaning something that its not.

Would it be easier to just write a bible the way you want it to read like other cults do? Im just saying. Im not gay but have gay friends.

Rick's comment: Hi a - The short answer is, No, it does not apply. Christian belief about Deuteronomy 22:5 for the last two thousand years has almost universally acknowledged that it is speaking about wearing what pagans wore to worship their false gods. I point that out on the Transgender page of my website.

Here's a couple of questions for you.

1. Now that you know the truth about this verse, do you have the humility to apologize for insisting that Deu 22:5 condemns gay couples?

2. Will you apologize to your gay friends for your judgmental attitude based on not studying scripture before you condemn?

answer please
by: friend of the gay belief

It is hard to understand how homosexuality could be condoned by god when it would seem to be just about sex basically. If you think about it, its just male male,or female female Eros sexual love not agape love that would lead into procreation of the human species.

Rick's comment: Hi Friend - why do you say being gay is just about sex but it's not just about sex for heteros? Using the old, "you can't procreate so it's just about sex" argument is so 1950s.

That alone a child would understand in the most basic terms. sure gays can adopt and show love but is it really better than the love a normal true christian heterosexual couple that can have natural child birth? It would be there flesh and blood. it takes genuine honesty for a pro gay or gay person to admit the truth here.

Rick's comment: It takes basic honesty to admit you haven't studied this issue, haven't thought deeply about this issue and you have no idea what the Bible says about this issue.

Anyone with a true anointed spirit filled Christian heart would admit this to be right. Rick would you be willing to agree? I have absolutely nothing against gay people.

Rick's comment: Nope, I disagree and, I'll bet you "have lots of gay friends."

yes there will always be hateful straight couples treating their own children spitefully but that still doesent change that the majority of straights do a wonderful job raising their own flesh and blood.

Rick's comment: Yep, het parents raise most of the gay kids on earth.

i honestly believe if gays were acceptable to gods creative order it would be very clearly stated in the bible not trying to read into inadvertently that it "might have been alowed. how could two married men or women ever experience the"natural child birth" joy of their own child being born? why would in gods perfect creation neglect the homosexual from this experience?

And please just because true Christians don't agree with this life style does not mean we are anti-gay, that is a cheap cop out! We just live by what all true spirit Jesus filled christians have believed in for over 2000 years.

you just don't agree with what the scriptures teach. another words you teach a non-Christian belief masquerading as if it has always been ok to be gay and everyone else but your minority is UN-educated in the bible.

Rick's comment: Dear, you need to do a lot more Bible study, a lot more reading of history and much more thinking. You're not there yet.

I think Rick is confused
by: your friend

Its what you are not saying is what disturbs me,no prayer into this Rick? The scriptures are spiritually discerned, you want to interpet scripture intellectually and scientifically. Whithout any spirit ,,prayed about discernment. Their RICK your confusion and misunderstanding lies.yes you study scripture but have no understanding what it is saying.you are very blind sir.(no disrespect) .the way gay sex is used in a inappropriate way(parts of the body not made for sexual intercourse for gods purpose) should be enough logic to help your confusion.the fact you dont have that basic understanding is disturbing and remarkable.

Rick's comment: Weird accusation - because I disagree with you, you assume I don't pray. LOL. Calvinists who disagree with me tell me I'm not saved. Charismatics who disagree with me tell me I have demons. Strange. Strange. Strange.

These pages contain info which may help unravel your confusion.

centurion was gay
by: adam

I keep reading these verses in my bible but im not able to find that this soldier or his slave were gay. my bible is not saying this.

Rick's comment: Hi Adam - my reasons for believing that the centurion is gay are on these pages. Please click on the text links on these pages too.

Did Jesus bless a gay centurion?

Were the centurion and pais a gay couple?

You said: "Did you know that Jesus met and blessed a gay Centurion and declared his faith greater than the faith of anyone in Israel? Gay Christian 101 gives you the facts."

In your book are you quoting from a certain version of the bible and if so which one?

Rick's comment: On my website and in my book I quote from about 45 translations. Most of my quotations are from the old King James Version because it is the most accurate.

If this is an assumed opinion then it would make sense to me,otherwise im not sure if i would regard it as historical fact. i would regard fact as actually reading in the bible that the centurion was gay,or jesus saying that he was gay not based on conjecture. Mr.b. is this a historic fact or educated opinion? Thanks.

Rick's comment: The Bible does not say, the centurion was gay nor does the Bible say the centurion was not gay. I reach the conclusion that he was gay based on the meaning of the Greek word pais, which is used to describe and differentiate the centurion's servant from his other servants and from what was historically true of centurions in the first century AD. My reasoning is explained at the text links I provided above. Thanks for the good questions Adam.

How many(todays) rabbi's agree with your belief about gay marriage according to the tora? How many dont?.i know there not Christian just wondering about it historically. How many (todays) christian scholars agree with gay marriage ? How many dont.-is there a close round about #? Do most todays rabbi's and todays christian scholars agree with your beliefs?

Another question is conserning a comment someone else asked that i thought was a interesting question that i didnt see you answer. "If god condoned man with man ,woman with woman then why would they have to use their bodies sexually in a way that god did not create it for?"

Rick's comment: Hi James - you are assuming that God created our bodies for only one use when it should be self-evident that the body has many uses. This is a family friendly website so I do not answer explicit questions on this topic.

I am assuming you understand what im trying to comment here. Hetro,-do it wrong too i know but if thet do it right then it would be used in the way it was meant to be.but it can never be that way for a gay married couple. I would think someone would respond in a silly manner by saying( whos to say god doesent want you to use your "backside " all the time for sex.)im not a doctor but i would think it would be unhealthy or unsafe without useing a condom all the time being gay and married., -Sorry couldnt think of a better way to describe,,-
Looking forward to your answer Rick,Thank you ,

Rick's comment: James, I do not get into this kind of discussion. Almost anything I say will be taken out of context and used to attack my ministry. I encourage you to research and read and seek information on your own on this topic.

You have the resources to prove everything else
by: kieth

You have the resources to prove everything else. Wouldnt it be wise and prudent to uncover and examine these resources as well? I will make this assumption in commenting here that most likely if you did study (j,s)question it would not prove favorable to your pro gay agenda.

From looking at this site you have a very exhausted study on just about everything and anything that "might"lead to your points. Interesting though not on a group that would have very good understanding and insight into the "gay marriage "perspective from the past to now(historically) from the "jewish" point that may not be favorable.i find this very odd you would not have looked into this your self or had someone else do this for you.just a suggestion.

To be fair for all points of view would you please look into this ?i would for myself but i know i dont have the resources like your site shows you to clearly have.and it would let other viewers have a better understanding about these matters as well,.thank you John.

Info is already online and in my book
by: Pastor Rick Brentlinger

Rick's comment: Hi kieth or John or j, whoever you are - I already have some info on this website about the Jewish viewpoint. For example:

The Babylonian Talmud on Sodom

Babylonian Talmud on same sex attracted eunuchs

The Jewish Viewpoint on Sodom

How can you say that the Sodom story in Genesis 19 is about lack of hospitality?

I also have info in my book about the Jewish viewpoint. For example, on Leviticus 18:22 and 20:13, I list 18 different viewpoints, about five of which are Jewish viewpoints.

On Romans 1:26-27 I list 15 viewpoints of that passage, several of which are Jewish viewpoints, several of which are early Christian viewpoints. At least some of the information you and J seek (are you guys the same person, j and John?) is already on my website and in my book. The eBook version of my book is available for only $17.

For most of my adult life I have been a self-supported Christian missionary. I noticed that when I pastored churches, people always had ideas about ministries I as the pastor ought to do. They were not shy about sharing their views with me but strangely enough, most of them did not want to help with the ministry they proposed.

Instead, they wanted to load me up with jobs they thought I should do. I learned by experience to tell them: "I'm glad the Lord laid that ministry on your heart. When can YOU start doing what God showed you to do?"

Of course, they rarely stepped up. My impression is that that is going to be the result of your suggestion. You want someone to find out what the Jewish view is but you have no intention of taking your time or your money to discover the answer.

I have a full schedule. I am researching and writing articles. My website reaches 40,000+ people each month and I answer comments and emails almost every day. I am revising and improving my book which is now out of print. I am preparing to have an estate sale, selling almost everything I own including my house so that I can move to California to help start a church. I am busy passing out tracts, witnessing to people about Jesus, writing Bible studies and discipling those I lead to Christ.

While I appreciate your desire to know more, if you are serious about wanting to know the Jewish view, you will be willing to study on your own and the Holy Spirit will lead you into His truth. Meanwhile I already have at least four pages on my website with links to additional info which will get you started. Hope this is helpful kieth or John or whoever you are.

What about the Dead Sea scrolls?
by: kieth

My name is kieth Adier John. I wasnt trying to offend you, by your response back to me it read as if you did. What about he dead sea scrolls? Do they have anything to say about gay marriage? Let me guess, i need to do the research.

Rick's comment: Hi Kieth - Yes, you are correct, researching the Dead Sea scrolls is not on my agenda at this time.

i would assume if it did you would have been all over it right?im sure you will comment back (if you do) in a derogatory way about my question however i would like to wish you well on your future endeavors and pray it will lead you to the true God.

Rick's comment: The majority of the Dead Sea scrolls have not yet been made available to the public. A few have been translated into English and published. Most the scrolls are in small fragments, not whole manuscripts.

Because some of them date to as early as the first century BC, and because they were stored in stone scroll jars in caves, they are not in very good condition. For that reason, they are difficult to work with as they tend to crumble when touched.

were the whole city of Sodom pagan goat worshipers?
by: billy

"...the men of the city, the men of Sodom, both old and young, all the people from every quarter, surrounded the house." (Gen 19:4)
#1 - Note first of all that "all the people" from the city are seeking to participate in whatever the "sin" is...
"And they called to Lot and said to him, 'Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us that we may know them carnally.'" (Gen 19:5)

#2 - The word "carnally" is not in the actual Hebrew text, but is supplied by the translators because the word "know" as used here is often a euphemism for sexual relations (e.g., Gen 4:1,17).

#3 - Lot's reaction to this crowd certainly suggests that is how he understood the crowd's request...
"So Lot went out to them through the doorway, shut the door behind him and said, "Please, my brethren, do not do so wickedly!" (Gen 19:6-7)

#4 - It is apparent that Lot understood their intentions were not honorable.
The next statement by Lot is hard to understand, but maybe it expresses his concept of hospitality in that he was willing to suffer personal loss rather than allow it to happen to his guests...

#5 - "See now, I have two daughters who have not known a man; please, let me bring them out to you, and you may do to them as you wish; only do nothing to these men, since this is the reason they have come under the shadow of my roof." (Gen 19:8)

#6 - Lot's amazing offer of his two daughters at least confirms that he understood the crowd's intentions were sexual in nature. But notice also that Lot explains that his original hospitality to these two strangers (cf. Gen 19:1-3) was precisely to protect from the sort of homosexual rape the crowd was intent on inflicting.

#7 - Interesting, Rick were the whole city of sodom pagan goat worshipers because i have not read this no matter how many times. Rick do you believe that all we need to know what God wants from us is in the bible only or do you think we need to enhance the bible to accept other beliefs?

May 09, 2014
Think on these things
by: Pastor Rick Brentlinger

Rick's comment: Hi Billy - I'm happy to answer your questions.

1. "were the whole city of sodom pagan goat worshipers because i have not read this no matter how many times."

Rick's comment: I've never made that claim. As far as I know the men of Sodom were not goat worshipers but the Egyptians and the children of Israel were goat worshipers.

Rick do you believe that all we need to know what God wants from us is in the bible only or do you think we need to enhance the bible to accept other beliefs?

Rick's comment: God's command to us is:

"Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth." - 2 Timothy 2:15.

Rightly dividing means we must always interpret scripture in context. What did it mean to its original hearers? What was the biblical cultural doctrinal historical linguistic literary and religious context in which they received it?

Attempting to understand scripture while refusing to factor in context is like trying to drive a car blindfolded. You have no idea where you are or where you're going. I encourage you to move beyond reading a verse in an English translation and assuming that you understand the verse without placing it in context.

Accuracy is key!
by: bill

"Rightly dividing"the word of truth. A few translations have it as "rightly handling" or "correctly handling" the Word of truth So what is the proper meaning of "orthotomeo" - "rightly dividing" the Word of truth... The word that is translated "rightly dividing" in the Old and New King James versions, and in several others, is a single word in the Greek. It is a form of the Greek verb" "orthotomeo..."

Rick's comment: Bill or Billy - Quoting from another website without attribution will cause Google spiders to low-rate this website. For that reason, I edited your comments.

It seems Mr.B you have a dispensationalist view. That view says that "rightly dividing" means, literally, dividing up God's Word - dividing up as in "cutting up." Dispensationalists teach a division between what they see as the Jewish portions and the Church portions of the Word of God.

Rick's comment: Yep, I am definitely dispensationalist and not Calvinist, not monergist, not a covenant theologian. I point that out to some degree on my Christians Under Law page.

And on that basis, classic dispensationalism postulates separate programs for Israel and the Gentile church... Would you please Mr.Rick B. Do some more research on this matter like I have it might help with some of your confusion on how you have been interpreting the bible. thanks so much and God bless.

Rick's comment: You have embraced a man-made philosophy, Calvinism, as the lens through which you interpret the Bible. No thanks. I am not confused and will not join you in your confusion.

You edit out what ever you want?only your fear of right true scripture rendering would want you to do this.thats exactly what you have done with bible passages that you do not agree with concerning gays.this is preposterous to say the least.you will give acount of your distortion of the bible before the throne of god.you refuse to give accurate information because you have a false ,distorted, biased, agenda.you obviously do not have a true love for god.you talk god say your saved but you have been decieved.your actions here clearly show this.please by all means edit my comment here or better yet avoid posting it so you can avoid this for others to read.

Rick's comment: Hi Billy - your comment was not your own words. You just copied and pasted from someone's website. I don't allow that here as I have already explained to you. Calvinists are really funny.

When someone disagrees with you, you accuse them of not being saved. LOL. Those of us who by reason of use have our senses exercised to discern good and evil are on to your game. You can't psych us into backing off, you can't bluster us into agreeing with you.

A word of advice for you Bill - this website is chock full of God's truth. You haven't heard it before but that doesn't mean it's not true. It just means you haven't read or studied much on this topic.

Your job as a Christian is to get serious for God. Stop accusing people of not having a true love for God and start studying. God has a lot more truth that He wants you to believe than you're aware of right now.

gay freedom!
by: greg h.

Slavery, multiple wives, animal sacrifice, put to death over certain sins. etc.that is what God wanted at that time. certain situations for certain times. that was then this is now. God deals with us in "our" times. is it a sin to have a cell phone though it was not written you can have one? certainly not!

I'm absolutely positive in the near future we will find that the apostle paul or others must have argued for same sex unions. I'm sure jesus would have married a gay couple if he was here today. he might have even married himself, who knows, just because nowhere in the king James version there is a defense for gay marriage or even anything clearly written at that time Christians can't rule out that it is acceptable now.

the bible can be hard to understand at times what may seem like it is very straightforward on a point it is not always so. there is a lot more studying that needs to be done. god saves anyone who will accept Jesus.

Muslim, gay, straight, hindu, Jehovah witness, mormon etc. some people are born with might seem strange tendencies - Jeffery dalhmer said he had strange feelings since he was a child but before he died he became saved and born again.

god can and will work in US all no matter if you agree or disapprove. it is about God! jesus said "just as it was in the days of Sodom and gamorah so it will be in the last days" anyone can obviously see the lack of hospitality homosexuals are given today. that prophecy I believe was about how gays would be disliked in the last days. jesus is the same yesterday, today, tomorrow, LOVE FOR THE WORLD.

"Whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to sin, it would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were drowned in the depth of the sea.  Woe to the world because of offenses! For offenses must come, but woe to that man by whom the offense comes!"
If you disagree with the gay life style your anti gay.I believe in what God has said, period! (Please don't waste time by saying no where in the bible does it say gay sex is a sin, study more, your so 1950,s,everyone else is taking scripture out of context except for you and your minority... Please apologize, repent and stop this nonsense.

by: louis alva

Your not a authentic Christian but a imposter or phony appealing to those who have itchy ears who are blown by the wind...You make anti -gospel DECESSIONS willfully and willfully turn from the truth of the gospel, Your choice against truth takes you deeper into bondage You have a mild form of Christianity not truely saved.no change of heart.

You have culture but no repentance. You didn't loose your salvation john you never had it.sodomites are dogs and will return to their vomit, it goes back to its vomit because it was always a dog.IT NEVER CHANGED.wash a sow and it will return to its filth because it was always a pig, there is no change. .love the gay, disapprove of the acts.it is only for self gratification, not at all for procreation. No hate speech or anti gay.just pro truth.according to the bible.a scripture I found written just for you R.B...

You RICK B. promise them freedom, but they themselves are slaves of corruption. For whatever overcomes a person, to that he is enslaved.

Rick's comment: LOL - Hi Louis Alva - what a silly screed you've written. Since you assert that I am not saved (because I disagree with you), I must assume you are a Calvinist. If you were Charismatic, you would accuse me of being demon possessed.

Reason for this site?
by: Matt

Rick, what is the purpose for this site? To fight with people who hate gay people?

Rick's comment: Hi Matt - No, the purpose for this site is:

1. To provide accurate information on what the Bible says and does not say about gays because many anti-gay Christians viciously attack gays, including recommending that we be put in concentration camps until we die as this dim-witted Baptist pastor did or saying we should all be killed, as two other Baptist Bozos did.

2. This site also exists to give gays facts and truth with which to defend themselves from religious nuts like the ones on that page. We do that by providing in depth info on all of the clobber passages.

3. AND too, we exist to witness to, evangelize and get gay people saved and then disciple as many gays, lesbians and transgendered people as we can by teaching them the Bible.

Hope this is helpful Matt.

Another drive-by spoofing from Matt
by: matt

Not very much hospitality, or acceptance of anothers thoughts here is there? (dimwitted baptist preacher) would this not be labeled as hate speach even though you dont agree with his belief? (RIGHT OR WRONG)

Rick's comment: Hi Matt - Those Baptist preachers advocate killing all gays and lesbians and you don't even know if that is (RIGHT OR WRONG)? LOL.

I thought you were against this type of retaliation against anothers opinions. a true christians washed in the blood would have forgiven and prayed for him. The hypocrisy here is absolutely astounding, great job with your ministry Rick, LOL

Rick's comment: Matt, the problem in answering guys like you is clear in the two comments you've made here. Even when I give you a kind and factual answer, you respond with almost illiterate insults. No thoughtful interaction, no evidence of any kind that you've read the Bible but plenty of evidence you have never studied the Bible.

I hope you are saved or that you get saved eventually. Meanwhile, your brand of brain-dead faux christianity is losing the battle across America while gay Christians like me are on the front lines of the Internet Truth War.

Your deception was for told by christ, apostles, and prophets long ago.the evil nonsense you spew lets true Christians know the signs of christ return. For this i thank you,

"Broad is the gate of deception and narrow is the way of truth."
"On that day many well say i did all these things in your name,my father will say depart from me you workers of iniquity i never knew you"

thank you Rick for unknowingly showing us more signs of this apostasy at its best.keep up the good work.the fact that america's denial of god and acceptance of this biblical sin of homosexuality as well as evolution, etc.and your silly observations of how it is being more accepted is HILARIOUS! the ridiculous way you twist scripture is comical. Like all CULTS like yours in time you will be exposed for the fraud you are.repent while you still can.

Mohamed does a Drive By Spoofing
by: halif

This is why your country is cursed. This is why so many other religions from other countries hate american beliefs. this is why america has become a den for satan. jesus was a great prophet he did not accept this evil. Mohammed the great PROPHET and all muslims today know homosexuals are evil. there is only one true god and his holy koran.

Are you calling our holy koran wrong?

Rick's comment: Yes, the Holy Bible is right and the unholy Koran is wrong.

are you saying the most blessed PROPHET is wrong? a liar?

Rick's comment: Yes, Mohamed is a liar and a false prophet; he is definitely NOT a prophet of God.

Are you blaspheming Allah?

Rick's comment: Allah is the pagan moon god, right? I reject allah because he is a false god and instead, I worship Jesus Christ, the Lord of Glory.

Be careful what you say about the holy one and his teachings.

Rick's comment: Halif, I encourage you to stop being a Muslim, stop following your false prophet Mohamed and get saved by the ONLY One who can save you, the Lord Jesus Christ of the Holy Bible.

Instead of expressing fake outrage at Christians who disagree with you, why not broaden your knowledge base? Why not learn to control your anger and discover all you can about Jesus?

Pick up a Bible and start reading the New Testament. If you believe what you read, it will change your life and you will get saved.

Trusting Jesus and getting saved is a lot better than trying to start an argument on a gay Christian website.

Of course, this may be just another drive by spoofing from a bored college kid.

believing god for gay
by: greg

Does Predestination to you RICK means for those he for knew those he predestined to be conformed to the image of his son? when God saves somebody he has predestined someone will be just like the Lord jesus christ" now that we are the sons of God it does not yet appear what we shall be but we know when he shall appear we shall be like him."you are predestined to be like Jesus christ, God already knows people must decide it is their decision that God already knows.do you agree with this understanding rick?

Rick's comment: Hi Greg - I am not a Calvinist or a monergist. They try to impose their philosophical system upon scripture and end up teaching a bunch of stuff the Bible never says.

When Jesus saves us, so many things happen due to salvation that most Christians have no idea what happens when you get saved.

I do believe that sanctification is (1) a truth that reflects our standing with God once we are saved, 1 Corinthians 1:30; as well as (2) an ongoing work over the course of our life as a disciple of Jesus, 1 Thessalonians 5:23. The result is that we will be like Jesus.

Gay marriage in the Bible?
by: bob

Is there any historical accounts of a gay marriage in the bible? I would like to show it to a pastor friend of mine.

Rick's comment: Hi Bob - the descriptions of what some of us believe to be gay marriages in the Bible are not so clear-cut that both sides of the argument agree that they are gay marriages. Here are some links to what I believe were early gay marriages and a link to a discussion of gay marriage in the Bible. Hope these are helpful. - Pastor Rick

Is there any evidence of an actual gay marriage in the Bible?

Are there any same sex couples in ancient history?

Did we evolve and is the Bible evolving?
by: marcus

You have said that you have to educate your self with how
God deals with us today .(certain things were not aloud then like they are now.)god deals with people on current society's time and culture.then wouldnt it stand to reason based upon your synopsis and the majority of scientific understanding that we evolved?if i had the format i could very well present a convincing case that god alowed us to evolve from millions of years of evolutionary change.most christian scholar dought the reality of Jonah beinging swallowed by a fish,or a donkey speaking to a individual. I believe as you do that you have to correctly in context understand what is being said.of course it is possible for homosexual,s to be married without sin.alot of things about marriage today is not spoke of then.new understandings everday can correct errors of the past.god deals with society as he see,s it now.the bible is evolving!new understandings,we need to stay up with current beliefs and teachings.ive read that the apostle paul was internationaly misleading because he would teach to mimic him instead of christ.jesus never said for homosexuals not to mary, shouldnt that be reason enough? I ve read that homosexuals are demon possessed. Who today really believes of this now? Isnt that superstition? Gays were born that way,i was told "when have you ever met a gay baby"and "if so did the baby tell you he was gay" just more anti-gay ,non current biblical knowledge.( God made man in his own image ) so then he would have to love the homosexual or he couldnt love himself.

Rick's comment: Hi Marcus - No, we did not evolve and the Bible is not evolving. Here is a good place to learn why we did not evolve. Was Adam a real man? Part 1

The apostle Paul did not mislead anyone. He taught people to follow him as he followed Christ because he was the apostle to the Gentiles while Jesus was the Jewish Messiah to the Jewish nation while they were living under the Law before the crucifixion and resurrection of Christ.

We are on the grace side of Calvary and we are not under the law, Romans 6:14. The Jews in the Gospels were on the Law side of Calvary. Believe me, grace is a lot better than law. Do you know FOR SURE that you are saved?

Jesus and Paul and the Sodom story
by: marcus

Why did jesus say not one single word against homosexuality but paul did? Also Im very confused about sodom-gamorah still, all of the men of that city were idol worshipers? Or all the men of the city did not show hospitality? It was destroyed for lack of hospitality, God takes that seriously, i think that i read.

But lott wouldnt let the angels meet the men to know them like they wanted. So the angels blinded all the men of the city. But all those men wanted to do was show hospitality to the angels not lotts daughters.

So why didnt the angels blind lott for his lack of hospitality? If Lott was wrong for the seclusion of the angels why would those angels listen to lott anyway? the angels knew the men wanted to show hospitality towards them. the angels were not false idols to the men of sodom.

And why would lott tell the men of the city not to do wicked to the angels (hospitality wicked?)but ok to his daughters Obviously lott had know idea why the angels were there. he thought hospitality was wicked! Was Lott bonkers?why did god destroy that city for LOTT,S confusion?

One other question, why did the men tell lott we will deal with you next?was it because all that time he had not shown those men any hospitality? And why wouldnt they accept lotts daughters as ambassadors for hospitality for the angels? Seems like their hostility was only directed at the two angels and lott butt not the daughters or mother. Please forgive me for so many questions pastor.

It is just from what i understand god sent the angels to warn lott and family to leave because he was going to destroy it for unrighteousness. so all of the men of sodom and G. were lacking hospitality (unrighteousness) and destroyed them but who in the world were they not being hospitable to? Please forgive my ignorance. And then turn lotts wife into a pillar of salt because of what? She looked back at a city of men who wanted to show hospitality?

Was Jesus God?
by: joseph

Hello Rick - Ive read and heard different speculation about who Jesus is or was when he was on earth. Did God manifest himself in the flesh another words was God Jesus? Your belief here would help me understand your web site so much better.
I am a gay christian, saved, born again.

Rick's comment: Hi Joseph - Yes, Jesus was God in the flesh, 1 Timothy 3:16, Who came to earth to be born of a virgin, Matthew 1:18-23, to die in our place, as our Substitute, Isaiah 53, paying for our sins as God's perfect sacrifice, 1 John 2:2. I provide more detail about that on these pages.

Gay genes and women in Sodom
by: david b

Is there any truth to G.L.TS. genes (born that way)?

Rick's comment: Hi David B - I believe being gay is innate by the will of God, Matthew 19:11-12.

Was there any women at all that lived in sodom or gamorah besides lotts sons wives, daughters, and his wife?

Rick's comment: Yes, there were women in Sodom.

1. All the men of Sodom had mothers and some of them had sisters and female cousins and many of them had wives.

2. Genesis 14:16 tells us that when Abraham recaptured the people of Sodom who had been taken captive in battle, women were included in the folks whom he returned safely to Sodom.

And is it acceptable in your opinion to study the strong concordance? If not which one do you study from or would recommend? Thanks So Much.

Rick's comment: Strong's Concordance is a good place to start. It has easy to use information including basic word meanings. Here is some helpful info about Strong's Concordance.

t.s is ?
by: nate&nick

So you are saying it is GOD,S will (innate) these young men have their genitalia changed to become a woman because THEY think that they are a woman inside a mans body? just because i act , pretend, look or prefer since i was a child to now that i am an adult to be a superhero doesent mean i am one.regardless of how i might FEEL, LOOK, THINK i am still an ordinary man. My gender was chosen by GOD before i was born to be a man right?

God has all made us perfectly for who we are regardless of what we might think are imperfections, you know more can alter or take out of context the bible ,than drastically altering what GOD has chosen for us.ITS MANIPULATION AND DECEPTIVE! Obviously no truth according to scriptures of t.s.other than a abomination. Why cant we just have honest truth instead of a systemic twisted views of dishonesty?
Ok,so who is wrong? GOD, Or Man? 1+1

Man does man things.
Woman does woman things.

Both have GOD given unique abilities. Are some woman physically stronger than men less feminine??sure, but not normally. Doesent make her a man though. Do some men exhibit a non-masculine appearance? Sure but not normally. doesent make him a woman. it is about be comfortable with GOD has given you and appreciating it. Don't be concerned about pleasing man but pleasing GOD by accepting what has been given to you by him. what gender GOD has given you is what you should appreciate and accept and using your instruments for their correct use obviously. Oh

And yes i am saved And no we are not a Calvinist or who or what ever. Simple humble christians keeping it real here in this temporary place. if you don't agree with us, We love and accept you anyway brother.

Rick's comment: Hi Nate & Nick - perhaps you are confusing being gay with transsexual issues or with transgender issues. Hope these links are helpful in explaining the difference.

A question about Sodom
by: rachel

I was reading from my bible this morning and the holy spirit showed me this passage. "Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities around them in a similar manner to these, having given themselves over to 1) sexual immorality and gone after 2)strange flesh, are set forth as an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire." (Jude 7).

Rick's comment: Hi Rachel - my answer to Jude and Sodom is on my Jude page.

I was told that their destruction was because of lack of hospitality and god takes lack of hospitality very seriously.
So why doesent it say they were destroyed because of lack of hospitality? Sexual immorality Strange flesh, Is the customs back then mean "show hospitality by strange flesh or sexual immortality? Rick how am i reading this wrong? is there another book i need to read to understand this hospitality?

Rick's comment: The Bible tells us that hospitality is very important and Jesus Himself points out that inhospitality was the sin of Sodom. Inhospitality was the sin of Sodom.

How can you say the Sodom story was about lack of hospitality?

Q.2 - Is it acceptable for women to be pastors in churches today? i know what the bible days about it but was curious about your views on this. im considering starting my own church. i believe god wants me to do this. Does god deal with us today differently than back then?

Rick's comment: I believe every Christian is called to proclaim the gospel, to evangelize the lost and to teach the Bible to those God brings within your orbit. God used women in the Old Testament and He used women in the New Testament.

The pastor's job is difficult and makes you the focus of a sustained spiritual attack from the devil. There are two ways to approach 1 Timothy 3 and qualifications for bishops.

1. Only men can fill the office of a bishop.

2. Paul's instructions to Timothy were culturally informed and are not necessarily binding on us today.

I tend to believe the first view is correct.

Starting a church is not something one does alone. Having been a church planting missionary, I know from experience that it takes a team of Christians who love Jesus and walk as disciples of Jesus, to start a church that pleases God.

My understanding of 1 Timothy 3 in no way prohibits a woman from starting a church or helping to start a church or a Bible study or teaching the Bible or winning souls or making disciples or being a missionary. I believe God is looking for obedient disciples today in an age when so many folks are Christian in name only so I encourage you to obey the leading of the Holy Spirit.

God's Word
by: Casey

Rick, I have been reading with interest your positions on Christians and homosexuality. You repeatedly cite "context" as being all important to understanding Gods intentions when He inspired men to write His letter to humankind. God makes it very clear to us that He is omnipotent, there is nothing too hard for Him to do, right? Then wouldn't it logically follow that God would see to it that the message He wants to convey to mankind through His Word would be clear and easy to understand?

Rick's comment: Hi Casey - Yes, the Bible is understandable. No, it isn't always easy to understand. No, you will not understand the Bible if you insist on ignoring context.

I believe God said exactly what He wanted to say and made it perfectly clear. The problem here is that people who are caught in this satanic snare, and I believe it to be just that, are looking for a loop hole, a means by which they can continue in their sin and yet assuage their guilt, I believe this to be very dangerous.

Rick's comment: The problem is, you have an anti-gay axe to grind. So whenever you see two men in the Bible, you assume it is talking about gays. You ignore context because if you factor in context, you cannot insist it is talking about gays.

Why not simply agree with God and seek deliverance? He wants to forgive you, let Him. Take a step of faith, completely repent of your sin and allow an omnipotent God to heal you, to cleanse you of all unrighteousness. God loves homosexuals and wants them to find eternal life, but they will not find it unless and until they are willing to confess their sin and with His help, turn from it.

Rick's comment: Your problem is arrogance and pride. You assume that if we disagree with you on the gay issue, we must not be saved. You have not studied Romans 1 in any depth yet you pretend to know more about it than we know.

In Romans 1 it speaks of God "giving them over to the lusts of their hearts", I think this is very important here in under-standing what God thinks about this subject. He gave them over because that's what they wanted, they weren't interested in righteousness, just getting their way, so He gave it to them.

Rick's comment: If you read Romans 1 without your anti-gay bias, you will discover that them refers to idolaters and rejectors of God, shrine prostitutes, people who used sex to worship Cybele, a false goddess of ancient Rome. You assume, without any proof except your own imagination, that "them" in Romans 1 refers to lesbians and gays. It does not.

I am commenting here because in Matthew 7:21-27, Jesus makes it clear that many will stand before Him on the day of judgement and essentially be told that they were in error, that even though they thought they were saved, they were not. What a horrible concept to embrace, more than I can even contemplate.

Rick's comment: Wow Casey - if you read Matthew 7, you will discover that Jesus is addressing false prophets, v. 15, who put on a show of piety and do allegedly great works for God when the false prophets are not even saved. Matthew 7:21-27 is not describing a general run of the mill believer. You have an unfortunate habit of grabbing a verse which seems to say what you believe and using it to support your view when, in context, the verse does not support your view.

So, with this in mind, I appeal to all unrepentant sinners to cease this endless justification of your sin and fall on your knees before a Holy God and seek the forgiveness and restoration He offers you. God is waiting, (2 Peter 3:9) He is not willing that any should perish, but that all may come to repentance - yes, repentance. That is the key to salvation, I hope you find it before it is eternally too late. God Bless!

Rick's comment: Wow, pious and arrogant at the same time, exhorting us "unrepentant sinners" to agree with your unstudied views because, since we disagree with you, we must not be saved. Just for the record, there are lots of gays who are saved by the blood of the Lamb. God saves us from our sin, not from our sexual orientation.

Confused
by: Kay

I'm confused. In your section about gay marriages in the Bible, you site I Samuel 18:21, but this passage is about Saul giving his daughter to David to wed, with no mention of Jonathan. Did you mistakenly use the wrong scripture?

Rick's comment: Hi Kay - No, that verse is believed by some to refer to Jonathan as one of the two that Saul references.

"And Saul said, I will give him her, that she may be a snare to him, and that the hand of the Philistines may be against him. Wherefore Saul said to David, Thou shalt this day be my son in law in the one of the twain." - 1 Samuel 18:21

"God contrasts Jonathan and David’s love story with the story of Michal and David. Although David eventually marries Michal, making him, in Saul’s words, his "son in law in the two" (Crown Prince Jonathan and Princess Michal) I Samuel 18:21, scripture is careful never to tell us that David loved Princess Michal. David and Michal’s barren marriage is presented more as political alliance than love match.

Scripture notes that David was pleased to become the King’s son in law instead of telling us David was pleased to marry Michal. David’s whole-hearted love was reserved for Jonathan. God makes it clear in scripture how much Jonathan loved David."

You Are Not God!!!
by: Jayme Turner

I think its funny when Christians try to ridicule others about being gay or if for some reason they have an abortion. An ex-boyfriend once told me my soul was going to hell because my best friend is gay, and because I believe it is not a sin to be gay. Christians against homosexuality love it when they find verses that "Semi"- prove their point that being gay is a sin. But what about the verse in the Bible that says 'no one that comes to The Lord will be condemned.' Let me repeat that 'NO ONE coming to The Lord will be condemned.' I think its so terrible when I'm driving down the street and I see these "Christians" holding up signs of mutilated baby's, that say "Jesus doesn't agree with abortions!" The only one to be able to pass judgement on any of these issues is The Lord Jesus himself. WE ARE NOT GOD, and for these people to sit here and say what Jesus thinks and how Jesus feels is just another form of Blasphemy. You can not take over the role of The Lord. And since these "Christians" love to find Bible versus that "Prove Their Points" I am begging someone to find a verse in The Bible that say 'Now children of The Lord, go out and condemn one another, fight with each other over beliefs, go out and tell another they are doomed to hell because of one they love, or because of the decisions they make.' Please find a verse like that to show me, or even something slightly similar! I'll wait.... Point is, as a Christian The Bile states it is our duty to go out and preach The Word of The Lord with Love, Peace, and Compassion. It is our duty as Christians to love each other. Although we allow are egos to get in the way, it is our duty to not judge one another. Judgement is only to be passed by The Lord. Let the one free of sin, Throw the first stone! Once again, I'll wait.

Rick's comment: Hi Jayme - Thanks for commenting. I encourage you to utilize the FREE Bible study resources on this website and dig deeply into the Bible. That will help you get spiritually grounded and growing strong in the Lord and His truth.

What must I do to be saved?

Does God Think You are Gay?
by: Rich Robson

God does not see you the same way as you and others see you,

"...for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart." 1 Samuel 16:7.

If God did look at the flesh we'd all be in trouble.

"...For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing:" Romans 7:18.

The flesh sins. That's all it really knows how to do. Being gay is sin, but it's no worse than any other sin that we all commit every day.

Rick's comment: Hi Rich - Interesting point yet I disagree with your statement that Being gay is sin.

Jesus was clear in Matthew 19:3-12, that born eunuchs (which included gay people) were born that way, from their mother's womb. Being gay is a natural normal sexual orientation and therefore not a sin.

"Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest: for wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest doest the same things." Romans 2:1

If we want to follow the law we all lose. No man can follow it (except Jesus) so the flesh is always "guilty". One sin is no worse than another. sin is sin. Man may see different shades, but not God.

We were chosen by God before He even created the world.

"According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:" Ephesians 1:4."

He chose you even though He knew you'd be gay and He chose me even though He knew I sinned, maybe different sins, but I do sin.

Our salvation depends on God and what He did through His son Jesus Christ. Once He chose us, our sins, whatever they may be, were wiped away.

"But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:" Ephesians 2:4-6

If that is true, then what difference does it make if you are gay or Hitler? Men might make a distinction, but God looks on the heart, not the flesh. If you or Hitler confessed Jesus as their lord and that God raised him from the dead (Romans 10:9) then they are saved. The particular sin you, I, or Hitler committed is irrelevant.

No need to struggle with being gay and Christian. You are already seated in heavenly places. That's what Ephesians 2:4-6 says and that's what it means.

Christ is in you (Colossians 1:27). What more do you want? Don't give your particular sin any thought at all. God doesn't!

Rick's comment: Hi Rich - Interesting - Ephesians 2:6 is one of my favorite verses. When the going gets tough, it helps me to remember that I AM already seated in heavenly places in Christ Jesus.

Can't tell if it's God's voice or hateful people's voice
by: Anne

Hi Rick, Thank you for sharing your testimony online. My father is also a pastor and my family does not believe that homosexuality is from God. Five years ago I met the woman of my prayers. For the first 23 years of my life I've lived a mostly sad lonely and depressed life until she came into the picture. I prayed that if it is God's will that he would bring a woman into my life to be my partner and it seems that He has.

Rick's comment: Hi Anne - Thank you for being so genuine and for sharing so openly. I offer two small nuggets of wisdom about what you've written so far.

1. Never doubt in the darkness, what God showed you in the light.

You prayed for a godly partner and God answered your prayer in a beautiful way by sending your beloved into your life.

Since God sent you your partner in answer to prayer, I would not let what someone said about gays discourage you and I certainly wouldn't let someone opinion break up my marriage.

I encourage you to continue building a God-honoring marriage with your partner as the two of you serve God together as a couple.

2. Bob Jones Sr. used to counsel his students:

Duties never conflict. God sent you a partner and God wants you to obey His holy word BUT NEVER allow someone to rip verses out of context, and allege that the out of context verses teach something they didn't teach in context, like "if you're gay, you go to hell."

Your duty is to give thanks for and accept God's loving answer to your prayers to send the right girl into your life and to focus your lives on serving God as a couple.

1 Cor 7:9 - "It is better to marry than to burn" in lust - Okay, so better to be married than struggling sad and lonely without a partner.

1 Cor 7:10 - "And unto the married I command, yet not I but the Lord, Let not the wife depart..."

Now in that verse, it is a wife departing from her husband but since God answered your prayers and brought your wife into your life AND, since gay marriage is accepted and legal in all fifty states, then I believe this verse also applies to you two.

Therefore, do NOT break up your marriage, do NOT get divorced, based on what someone said from the pulpit. Do not let them lay a guilt trip on you.

Until recently I went to church and Lisa Bevere was the guest speaker. Of course she spoke about people who are homosexuals will go to hell. I thought this church was a safe haven for my girlfriend and me.

Rick's comment: To be honest, on gay and lesbian issues, Lisa doesn't know what she is talking about. There are MANY saved gays and lesbians in the body of Christ. No one goes to hell for being lesbian or gay. People go to hell for not receiving Jesus Christ as their Savior.

The best preparation for being a born again, saved disciple of Jesus is to know for sure you are saved. Everyone needs to be saved from sin and hell and the wrath of God. Here is what Jesus taught about hell and God's wrath.

Jesus teaches Hell 101

What is the wrath of God?

Getting saved and becoming a disciple of Jesus means not trusting your good works, your church membership, your confirmation, your baptism, your sacraments, being a cultural Christian or grace allegedly infused through a church, instead, trusting by grace alone through faith alone in the Lord Jesus Christ alone to save you.

What must I do to be saved?

Once you know for sure you are saved, it helps to understand what happened when you got saved.

What happens when you get saved?

Once you understand what happened when you got saved, it helps to understand how long you are saved for. Is your salvation temporary or eternal?

Am I saved for all eternity?

I felt the Holy Spirit there and it was telling me to give up my entire life as Jesus did on the cross. He says that those who lose their life will find life. I don't have anyone in my life that I feel comfortable sharing this to. On one hand I want to follow my convictions on the other hand He sent me my partner.

Rick's comment: I note that you didn't say the Holy Spirit told you to separate from your girlfriend / wife. It is certainly possible that God is calling you to serve Him. It is certainly possible that God is calling you to live a more consecrated dedicated sanctified life for God.

I encourage you to follow that leading but that leading does not mean you get divorced or separated from the partner God sent into your life in answer to your prayers. Please don't doubt God's answer to your prayers.

Many churches have preached the false anti-gay gospel for so long that it has become ingrained in many gays and lesbians. It has created a sad self-loathing which some people falsely believe is the Holy Spirit.

In many cases, it is simply an unclean spirit trying to mess with you so that you go back to the sad lonely depressed isolated life you had before God answered your prayers to choose a partner for you and send her into your life.

Everyone in my life except for my parents who don't know about me, told me that my partner and I are made for each other. I'm so confused and I don't know what He wants! How can I tell what His true will is?

Rick's comment: God's will for you is to:

1. Get saved - Romans 10:9-10, 13
2. Surrender your heart and life and body to Jesus - Romans 12:1-2
3. Walk in the Spirit - Galatians 5:16
4. Live a holy life for God - 1 Thess 4:1-4
5. Love God and serve Him whole-heartedly - Matthew 22:36-39
6. Trust God's working in your life and His answers to your prayers - Proverbs 3:5-6

I hope you and your partner will read this together and read the text linked pages together and look up and read the verses in my answer, together.

Then pray together about this together and ask God to make it clear to both of you how He wants you to serve God as a couple. God bless you both!

Must "gay" involve homosexual sex?
by: Don

Two items, please. 1)Isn't is possible to be "gay" without engaging in homosexual sex? I'm unaware of biblical condemnation of being gay, but homosexual sex is unambiguously sin; an "abomination". 2) How on Earth do you contextualize temple prostitution at Romans 1? (Or at Leviticus 18?)

Rick's comment: Hi Don - Thanks for the interesting questions.

1. Yes, it is possible to be gay and live a celibate life. Yet, as you will recall from reading 1 Cor 7:1-9, being celibate is a gift from God, which most people do not have. It is not something you can impose on gays who disagree with you on the gay issue.

You believe that homosexual sex is unambiguously sin yet no verse of scripture, in context, says that or implies that. None of the clobber passages, in context, addresses two gay guys or two gay gals who fall in love and covenant to spend their lives together as a couple.

There is something unseemly about ripping verses out of context and then alleging the out of context verses condemn gays when, in reality, the verses are talking about shrine prostitutes.

2. These references address that.

Leviticus 18:22 and Shrine Prostitutes

Romans 1 and Shrine Prostitutes

3. If that is not your conclusion, I beg you to share with me the verses which contradict that, verses which condemn loving relationships between two men or two women because my hearts desire is to only preach and teach God's truth.

4. Being gay in the modern era is like being polygamous in the Old Testament. In the OT, polygamy was culturally accepted, legal and perfectly fine with God.

In the modern era, being gay is culturally accepted, legal and perfectly fine with God.

OT Jewish believers did not attempt to use the power of government to outlaw polygamy.

Sadly, modern professing Christians do attempt to use the power of government to impose their out of context anti-gay views on their gay brothers and lesbian sisters.

The Bible speaks clearly and repeatedly to sexual sin; not nearly as clearly to temple prostitution. It becomes quite clear that eisegesis is more prominent in your apologetic than is disciplined exegesis.

Rick's comment: I get that argument or some version of it all the time.

1. Calvinists who disagree with me tell me I'm not saved and am going to hell because I disagree with them.

2. Charismatics who disagree with me tell me I'm demon possessed and going to hell because I disagree with them.

3. Professing christians who rarely study the Bible and have never bothered to read their Bible from cover to cover tell me I am a false prophet or a false teacher because I disagree with them.

I've taken the time to read, study and become knowledgeable on this issue. I've even talked with Dr. Rob Gagnon, the leading anti-gay speaker and writer on the gay issue. By the way, I like Rob - he is a nice friendly guy and we had a long interesting conversation last summer.

Is it possible Don, that you are applying a lower standard of exegesis to Leviticus 18:22 and 20:13, than you utilize when preaching through the rest of the Bible?

Your certitude about this impresses me as whistling past the graveyard. Like Peter in Acts 10, you believe you are standing for God's truth when, in reality, the Holy Spirit would love to lead you into truth you have not yet embraced.

If you will stop echoing Peter, Acts 10:14, saying, "Not so Lord," when the Holy Spirit confronts you on this issue, He will open your eyes to biblical truth.

Your long battle against gays can end when you open your heart to what the Holy Spirit is teaching you.

Is it possible you have someone close to you who is gay, whom you have grievously wounded and pushed away?

You can be a blood-washed, Spirit-led, conservative, King James Bible believing, Jesus loving, tract passing, soul winning, disciple-making, pre-mill, pre-trib, on fire for God Christian without being anti-gay.

I am praying for you Don. I do not believe you have a mean heart. I believe you love God and long to be used for His glory. Let's keep talking because God intends to use you to win souls, including gays and lesbians, without wounding them emotionally or spiritually.

Must "gay" involve homosexual sex?
by: Don

Please help me to find "Shrine Prostitutes" in either Leviticus 18:22. Or in Romans 1, where all people - including Shrine Prostitutes! - "who suppress the truth in unrighteousness" are "given over to degrading passions".

Does Scripture say anywhere that being gay is a degrading passion? But it does say - at Leviticus 18:22 - that homosexual sex is an abomination.

Also, might not God gift gay people with celibacy?

You're not suppressing the truth, are you?

Rick's comment: Hi Don - I always try to give you guys in the anti-gay crowd the benefit of the doubt. I start off assuming you are honest and that you approach scripture exegetically, carefully considering the biblical, cultural, doctrinal, historical, linguistic and religious context. It seems to me you are being argumentative instead of focusing on facts.

I provided two links to help you find shrine prostitutes in Leviticus 18:22 and Romans 1. By the way, please do not ignore the comments of conservative Christian scholars (who were not defenders of gay rights), who have taught, down the centuries of church history, that Lev 18:22 and Romans 1 are about shrine prostitution.

Must "gay" involve homosexual sex?
by: Don

My favorite (only!) grandson says frequently, "Let me get this straight." Admirable! So, let me get this straight: "No verse of Scripture, in context, says homosexual sex unambiguous sin." Leviticus 18:22 does - IN CONTEXT!

Rick's comment: Hi Don - Your grandson sounds like a great kid! I'm glad for the joy you bring to each other.

Lev 18:22 was never aimed at gay men. 3450 years ago, when Moses wrote Leviticus, the ancient Jews did not have the concept of men who are innately gay. The category, shrine prostitutes or men with men, were called dogs by the Hebrews, Deuteronomy 23:17-18, or quedeshim or assinu or kuguru or kulu'u.

Lev 18:22 was aimed at men, mostly heterosexual, who used same sex rituals to worship the false gods of Egypt and Canaan, Lev 18:3. That is why it is coupled with v. 21, Molech, so we would know the religious context.

Your defense is prestidigitacious, inserting idolatry into the clear context of instruction from God to His people as to how they are to conduct themselves when they enter the land. You seem fully persuaded that moral conduct can NOT involve homosexual sex.

Rick's comment: If I were the only one saying Lev 18:22 is about idolatry and shrine prostitution, you might have a point. However, many radically anti-gay, world class conservative Christian commentators, some of them with two earned doctorates, agree that the context of Lev 18 is cult or shrine or temple prostitution.

I'm not teaching anything new or unusual. It seems new and novel to you because you are not acquainted with the facts on this issue.

akatharsia is uncleanness, obviously moral uncleanness in Romans 1. (I did read your links and found them woefully unpersuasive,) Specifically "men with men committing indecent acts".

Rick's comment: There is no question about the meaning of akatharsia and akatharsian and related Greek words. Dr. Robert Gagnon, in a long phone conversation we had last summer, also disagreed with me about the meaning of akatharsian.

While we talked, he checked BDAG - Bauer, Danker, Arndt and Gingrich - A Greek - English Lexicon of the New Testament and said, rather surprised: I think you're right (on the meaning of akatharsian).

That doesn't mean that he has changed his mind about gays in general but since he is a tenured professor of biblical Greek at Pittsburg Theological Seminary, with degrees from three Ivy League schools, Dartmouth, Harvard and Princeton, and is also the leading anti-gay scholar and writer of our day, you may want to reconsider your rejection of this truth based on little or no study on your part. Stating that you find it woefully unpersuasive is an argument based on nothing.

By your use of Greek words and big English words, it appears that you are very smart. However, I am curious to know how it is that one who questions your worldview is an "angry anti-gay." You don't know whether or not I am gay!

Rick's comment: That's true - I don't know if you are gay or not but I don't normally get comments from gays who argue the anti-gay view while presenting no evidence of any kind for their position except their opinion. The gays I know and love are more careful in their research and study.

Has part of our dialog been censored?

Rick's comment: Hi Don - I haven't edited any of your words. You have been commenting in two different threads so perhaps the comments you're looking for are in the other thread. I did edit my words because I felt I had been too argumentative in my response to you.

Believing he was born gay
by: Dianna

My brother totally believes he was born gay because he can recall being strangely drawn to male movie stars since the age of 4 or 5. At the time, he simply didn't know how to deal with the feelings he had, so he just started crying. We are from a missionary family, so that complicated things greatly for him.

He finally decided to tell his one brother in his early 20's, and one by one all the siblings have come to terms with it. He has never told our parents; my mom is still alive. We all have chosen to accept and love him, and not to condemn him in any way. He and I have a very close, loving relationship.

Over time, not being able to reconcile his belief that he was born gay, and that God calls it sin, he became an atheist. He researches scientific things extensively and only sees that science proves there is not a God. In the past couple of months, I have seen him become more and more consumed with anger and hatred. I am worried about him taking his life.

Rick's comment: Hi Dianna - I am so thankful for you and your siblings doing the right thing and loving and affirming your brother. It grieves my heart to hear that he has forsaken the Christ of the Bible, who loves him and paid the penalty for his sins so he can be saved.

If you haven't already, would you share this website with your brother? It should be clearly understood: The Bible NEVER calls being gay a sin. The Bible calls shrine prostitution a sin. It is perfectly fine to love and serve God as a gay Christian in a same sex marriage or same sex relationship.

Here is an analogy that helps explain why it is perfectly fine with God to be gay married today.

In the Old Testament, polygamy was culturally accepted, legal and perfectly fine with God. Abraham, Jacob and many other heroes of the faith were greatly blessed by God in polygamous marriages. Yet today, most Christians do not accept polygamy.

In the modern world, gay marriages are culturally accepted, are legal and are perfectly fine with God. There are many many born again gays and lesbians who enjoy blissful gay marriages and have the favor and glory of God upon their lives.

Your brother needs to know that he is not a mistake. He is an incredible creation of God and God has loving plans for him as a gay Christian man, Ephesians 2:10. I pray your dear brother will return to the God Who loves him extravagantly and be welcomed by His loving heavenly Father.

Thinking out loud
by: A

Hi Rick Ive read what you said and your believe that being gay is not wrong, for years I believed that too, but i have a question to ask?

If you came to Jesus and you accepted Him as your Lord and Savior how can you still believe that He would accept gay people?

Rick's comment: Hi A - I believe it is not a sin to be gay, that it is perfectly fine with God to be gay because no verse of scripture says otherwise. Every verse used to "prove" that being gay is a sin is taken out of context. My website points out that fact in meticulous detail.

Correct me if I am wrong, i do not take verses out of context without reading the passage also. You mentioned in one of your comments that the writers of the OT and NT wrote about prostitution ect ? But who wrote the bible , yes man but under the influence of the Holy Spirit, the whole bible is God breathed, is the Holy Spirit wrong?

Rick's comment: If you can provide any verse which IN CONTEXT describes gay couples or lesbian couples as living in sin, I will be happy to read it.

In a persons walk with God repentance and faith goes hand in hand. The word repentance in greek means Metanoya which means to turn away from sin, so my question is, if you are saved and believe in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, if you have repented, truly, don't you think that by definition you might be wrong?

Rick's comment: No, not at all. It is wrong to rip verses out of context and use the out of context verses to try to prove that it is a sin to be gay. I have a helpful page about the meaning of repentance which I hope you will read.

How can you still practice the act which you have repented from? And if this is the case and you still believe your correct please read the following scriptures: Heb 6:4-6.

Rick's comment: You wrote that for years, you believed it was not wrong to be gay. Have you considered the possibility that you are now believing a religious lie instead of carefully searching out what the Bible says in context?

I have assembled on this website, convincing biblical, cultural, doctrinal, historical, linguistic and religious proof that the Bible does not condemn gays.

For the sake of your own peace of mind, will you read and study and pray about what I present on this website? You do not need to live in fear of losing your salvation.

My blessed Jesus saves to the uttermost ALL who come unto God by Him and when Jesus saves your soul, He never changes your sexual orientation. God bless you A!!!

What the Bible said in context
by: Jesse Frank

Why does the Bible say that being homosexual is and abomination? Leviticus 18:22) (Leviticus 20:13)

And I mean word for word. The Bible also said don't take or add to to God word. I noticed that there has been a lot of additions.

Rick's comment: Hi Jesse - The Bible never says that being homosexual is abomination. There may be some poorly translated versions, like the New Living Translation, which insert the word, homosexuality, into Leviticus 18:22, when it was never there in the Hebrew text but using a poor translation like NLT as your standard is not wise.

If you seek truth, please read my shrine prostitutes page.

Gay in the Bible
by: One Who Does not want blood on her hands

It states simply and plainly, there will be no homosexuals in heaven.

Rick's comment: Hi One Who Does not - I believe it will help you spiritually, to get a King James Bible - NOT the New King James - and read that, instead of your modern versions.

The modern versions put the word, homosexual, or, men who have sex with me, in the Bible when, those words were never in ANY Bible in any language until 1948.

My website has lots of honest, helpful information on the clobber passages. Please don't let anti-gay Christians do a snow job on you.

What must I do to be saved?
