The Bible Clearly Teaches
Eternal Security

Eternal Security is a heavenly truth taught in the Bible. Scripture clearly teaches that born again believers in our Lord Jesus Christ can never lose their salvation. Jesus taught eternal security in John 10:27-29 This is also called the doctrine of preservation of the saints or OSAS, meaning, Once Saved, Always Saved or Once Sealed, Always Saved, Ephesians 1:13-14.

The reason many Christians are not established, strengthened and settled in their Christian life is because they don’t understand what happened to them when they got saved. In this Bible study, you will learn Bible truth if you look up the verses, mark them in your Bible and believe what you read.

32 Scriptural Reasons
You
Should Believe In Eternal Security

The following are some of the many reasons I personally believe that a saved person can never ever be lost or lose his/her salvation.

1. Believers are positionally in heaven right now. That's Eternal Security!

"(God)...hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus." Ephesians 2:6

If you’ve been born again, John 3:3-7, then you are already in heaven because you are “in Christ” and Christ is in heaven. To lose your salvation, God would have to take you out of Christ and then kick you out of heaven.

2. Believers are members of the body of Christ.

"For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones." Ephesians 5:30

"But now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased him... Now ye are the body of Christ ..." 1 Corinthians 12:18,27

Will Christ in heaven be an amputee, missing a foot or a hand? Of course not. A young girl was asked,

"Aren't you afraid you might slip through the Lord's fingers?"

"No Sir,” she replied, “I am one of His fingers."

3. Believers are complete in him.

"And ye are complete in him , which is the head of all principality and power." Colossians 2:10

Because scripture clearly tells us we are complete in Him, we know that everything necessary for our salvation has been done. We don’t have to add in our good works or our ability to hold out faithful to the end. If we could lose our salvation we would not be complete in Him. Eternal Security.

4. Believers are accepted in the beloved.

Paul wrote that God "...hath made us accepted in the beloved." Ephesians 1:6

God made us accepted in the beloved - not in our works, not in our good intentions, not in our ability to hold out faithful to the end. God made us accepted in the beloved and Jesus is God’s Beloved. Because we are “in” Him, God accepts us and gives us Eternal Security.

5. Believers who have eternal security are saved by grace, not by works.

"For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast." Ephesians 2:8, 9

"Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt." Romans 4:4

"And if by grace, then is it no more of works; otherwise grace is no more grace." Romans 11:6

Because you didn’t do anything to earn your salvation, nothing you do can cause you to lose your salvation. That's Eternal Security.

6. Believers in Jesus Christ are confirmed blameless unto the end.

"Who shall also confirm you unto the end, that ye may be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ." 1 Corinthians 1:8

Now tell me, if God confirms you blameless unto the end, does that leave any room for you to lose your salvation? If you could do something that causes you to lose your salvation, you would be to blame and you wouldn’t be blameless unto the end.

Eternal security is the spiritual birthright of every Christian.

7. Believers will appear at the judgement seat of Christ for their works to be judged, not their salvation.

"For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ. Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble; Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is. If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward. If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved: yet so as by fire." 1 Corinthians 3:11-15

Notice that his works are judged but he is still saved. The judgment seat of Christ is a judgement of our works, not to determine salvation but to determine rewards.

8. Believers are sealed unto the day of redemption.

"And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption." Ephesians 4:30

The Bible does not say, sealed unto the day of damnation. It says sealed unto the day of redemption. God keeps you from the start of your salvation to the finish of your salvation. You do not keep yourself.

A seal in scripture speaks of ownership. We are God's possession. He owns us. Can God lose us? The Holy Spirit has promised to keep us. Will God break His promise? No way. Ephesians 4:30

An earnest in scripture means a guarantee. Since God gives the earnest or guarantee of the Holy Spirit, that assures us that God will keep His promise and will keep us.

"In whom [Jesus Christ] also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will: That we should be to the praise of his glory who first trusted in Christ: In whom ye also trusted after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that Holy Spirit of promise, which is the earnest [guarantee] of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased posssession, [we are the purchased possession] unto the praise of his glory." Ephesians 1:11 -14

9. Believers are preserved unto the heavenly kingdom.

"And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me unto his heavenly kingdom." 2 Timothy 4:18

Since God preserves believers unto his heavenly kingdom, when could you possibly loose your salvation? You are preserved by the power of God from start to finish.

10. Believers shall never thirst again.
Eternal Security.

"Jesus answered and said... But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst." John 4:13, 14

If you can lose your salvation, then you can thirst again. But once you’ve tasted the living water, Jesus says you will never thirst again. Jesus would not say that about a man who could lose his salvation because that man could thirst again.

11. Believers have everlasting life as a present possession.

Everlasting means lasting forever or enduring forever, eternal, existing or continuing without end, immortal. (Webster's American Dictionary).

"Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation..." John 5:24

"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life." John 3:16

It would not be everlasting life if you could lose it. God’s promise is that those with everlasting life will not come into condemnation and they will not perish. Do you believe what God tells you in these verses?

12. Believers are secure in the love of God which is in Christ.

"For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord." Romans 8:38-39

No one, including you, can remove you from the love of Christ or from the security of your eternal salvation in Jesus Christ.

13. Believers are secure in the hand of Christ.

"And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand." John 10:28

God did not give you temporary life. He gave you eternal life when you trusted Jesus Christ. And Jesus said the ones to whom He gave eternal life "shall never perish."

If you can lose your salvation and perish, then Jesus is wrong but we all know, Jesus is never wrong. If you're trusting in Jesus for eternal life, then you will never perish. That's Eternal Security.

14. Believers are also secure in the Father's hand.

"My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man [that includes you] is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand." John 10:29

Jesus told us that no one can pluck us out of the Father’s hand. You cannot pluck yourself out of the Father's hand. Could it be any more clear?

15. Jesus and the Father keep you so you can never be lost. That's Eternal Security.

"And this is the Father's will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me, I [Jesus] should lose nothing." John 6:39

If it is the will of God the Father that Jesus lose not even one of those who believe in Him, where does that leave any room for you to lose your salvation? Are you beginning to see it? You are kept by the power of God, not by your own power. That is a blessing of Eternal Security in Jesus!

16. Jesus will never cast you out.

“All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.” John 6:37

If you come to Jesus, He will never cast you out. If words mean anything, never must mean never and no ifs, ands or buts about it.

17. The Holy Spirit abides with the believer forever.

"And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, [the Holy Spirit] that he may abide with you forever." John 14:16

Since Jesus promises that the Holy Spirit will abide with believers forever, does that leave any room for you to lose your salvation? That's Eternal Security.

18. Believers are saved by Jesus’ life, not by their own good life.

"For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life." Romans 5:10

Your life and your good works and your intentions are not the issue. You are saved by Jesus’ life and therefore you cannot lose your salvation.

19. Believers are justified by the righteousness of Christ, not by their own righteousness.

Righteousness is always and only given as a free gift - it is not something we can earn.

"...Even so by the righteousness of one [Jesus Christ] the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life. For as by one man's disobedience [Adam] many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one [Jesus Christ] shall many be made righteous." Romans 5:18-19

You are justified before God based on the righteousness of Christ. You are never justified before God based on your own works or your own righteousness. The righteousness of Christ is perfectly acceptable to God.

When you get “in Christ” God gives you the righteousness of Christ. That is called justification by faith and that is why you can never lose your salvation. Eternal Security is a gift of God to sinners who believe in Jesus as their Savior from sin, hell and the wrath of God.

20. Believers who have eternal security are called, justified and glorified.

"Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified." Romans 8:30

Since God does all the work required to save us and keep us, the option of getting saved and then rejecting our salvation is never given to us. From start to finish, God saves us and keeps us and we are eternally secure in Him. The amazing grace of God gives saved sinners Eternal Security.

21. Believers are predestinated to be like Christ.

Predestination means to appoint or ordain beforehand to an unchangeable purpose.

"For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son..." Romans 8:29

Since God predestinated believers to be like Christ and since Christ can never be lost, it is impossible for a believer in Jesus Christ to be lost. Are you thankful to God for giving you Eternal Security?

22. Believers may be destroyed physically and still be saved.

"It is reported commonly that there is fornication among you... I have judged already: to deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus." I Corinthians 5:1-5

Possessing eternal life and eternal security is not an excuse to sin. God does not want us to live sinful lives. If we live sinful lives, we face the judgment of God but notice that the judgment of God on believers does not mean losing our salvation. The individuals who were judged in 1 Cor 5:1-5 were still saved. Also, see #7 above. Only born again Christians have Eternal Security in Jesus. Buddhists and Muslims don't have any security.

23. Believers may have confidence in God's faithfulness.

"Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ." Philippians 1:6

A Christian once remarked:

"Before I learned the truth of my eternal security, I held on to Christ with one hand and tried to serve Him with the other but when I realized that both Christ's arms were around me and I could never be lost, it left both my hands free to serve Him!"

During construction of the Golden Gate Bridge, many of the workmen, fearing for their safety if they fell, were not performing their work effectively. A safety net was constructed under the work area so that any man falling from the bridge would be caught in the safety net and saved.

From that time on, the work went forward with increased speed and efficiency. Once the men knew they were secure, they worked with confidence. To constantly live with the fear of being eternally lost does not produce confident, loving, effective service for Christ. Love, not fear should be the motive for serving God. That is the joyful Christian doctrine of Eternal Security.

"For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind." 2 Timothy 1:7

24. Believers have a second birth, not a third or fourth or fifth birth.

"Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again." John 3:7

Jesus did not say, "Ye must be born again and again and again." You don't get saved and then lose your salvation and then get born again again.

Like begets like. If you cannot be unborn physically, why would you believe you can be unborn spiritually and then get reborn again and again? Eternal Security is based on the faithful word of the Lord Jesus Christ.

25. Believers who have eternal security may know they have eternal life.

"These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God that ye may know that ye have eternal life." I John 5:13

To know that you have eternal life, you must believe what the Bible says. As long as you refuse to believe what the Bible says or argue with what the Bible says, you will not know that you have eternal life.

If you’re struggling with thoughts that you can lose your salvation, you should write some of these verses on 3x5 cards and memorize the verses. That way, the Holy Spirit has something in your mind to help you fight your doubts and lack of belief in what the Bible says about Eternal Security.

26. Believers know that they will be like Christ.

"Beloved now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him ..." 1 John 3:2

Since believers are now the sons of God and since believers know that when Jesus appears, they will be like him, believers in Jesus Christ are eternally safe and secure in the Eternal Security that only comes from believing in Jesus as your Savior.

27. Believers have an inheritance reserved in heaven.

God has begotten us unto a living hope and "To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you, Who are kept by the power of God..." 1 Peter 1:4

We have a heavenly inheritance, reserved in heaven for us. Because we are kept by the power of God, not by our own power, our salvation is as eternal and secure as God Himself. Eternal Security depends on God's honesty and saving power.

28. Believers are kept by the power of God - not by their own power or works or religious efforts.

"Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation...” 1 Peter 1:5

The only way a believer in Jesus Christ could lose his or her salvation is if God stops keeping us saved. If you’re trusting the power of God to keep you, then you have eternal security. If you’re trusting your own power, they you will always struggle with doubts.

29. Believers are born of incorruptible seed.

"Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible , by the word of God, which liveth and abideth forever." 1 Peter 1:23

If you could lose your salvation then the seed would be corrupted. The Bible says the seed is incorruptible. Therefore, you cannot lose your salvation. The seed by which you were born again is the incorruptible word of God - that's why God's Eternal Security literally means eternal.

30. Believers receive salvation as a gift from God.

"For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.)" Romans 5:17

"For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." Romans 6:23

31. Believers are part of the eternal house of God.

"For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens." 2 Corinthians 5:1

It does not say ‘We hope to have’ or ‘If we keep holding on to salvation, we will someday have...’ The verse says, “We know” and “we have.” That is a certainty based on what scripture says and that is Eternal Security.

32. Believers who have eternal security also have everlasting consolation - not temporary consolation.

"Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God, even our Father, which hath loved us, and hath given us everlasting consolation and good hope through grace..." 2 Thesalonians 2:16

How could we have everlasting consolation if we could lose our salvation? If we could lose our salvation, then whatever consolation we have would be temporary. Since God tells us our consolation is everlasting, we know that we have eternal security because we are “in Christ.”

Eternal Security is the present possession of every born again believer in the Lord Jesus Christ. If you've believed on the Lord Jesus Christ as your Savior, you have eternal security right now.
