The Bible Is Our Book Too!

by Kay in San Diego

“Beloved, while I was very diligent to write to you concerning our common salvation. I found it necessary to write to you exhorting you to contend earnestly for the faith for the faith which has once for all been delivered to the saints.” Jude 3, NKJV

As GLBT Christians we have sometimes had the bible used as a weapon against us. Many of us have been wounded, rejected, almost blugdeoned to death by other Christians who have used the Bible to separate us from the church, and from Jesus.

Because of this, when gay and lesbian Christians are trying to reconcile their inherent sexual orientation with their Christian faith, many GLBT Christians have adopted the ideology that the Bible is suspect, not to be trusted and most definitely should not be used or seen as inerrant. Sadly, many GLBT Christians view the Bible as just a "good source of subjective information."

As GLBT Christians it is time for us to say to straight Christians and our friends in the GBLT community that we can believe from our heart what Paul said to Timothy.

“All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.” 2 Timothy 3:16

There are so many false teachings and different gospels these days. It is important that we “contend for the faith” from a loving, compassionate heart.

“Speaking the truth in love” requires us to challenge and confront those who say "the Bible is not relevant for Christian faith today... Because the Bible has been used against us in the GLBT community, we must remove it from our faith."
It is sometimes alleged that “the Bible is only a collection of moral stories, some truth, some myth, but the Bible is not a source of truth for Christians, especially those of us who have been wounded by it.”

I want to encourage my community, my sisters and brothers. I love you!! I love my community!!

There is no need for those of us who have been wounded because of our sexual orientation to toss out our faith or the Bible. We can still believe its message today. As blood bought, born again believers of Jesus Christ, it is our book too.

Leonard Ravenhill, author of the classic book, Why Revival Tarries.

The great preacher Leonard Ravenhill said it best:

"We have adopted the convenient theory that the Bible is a book to be explained, whereas first and foremost it is a book to be believed - after that it is to be obeyed.”

GBLT Christian, never grow weary contending for the faith but defend the Christian faith with a loving, gentle heart.

I love what you said. Sometimes as homos, other Christians make us feel like God doesn't love us when God really does!

You go girl!
