What We Believe

Accepted by God Just as I am

by Ed
(Brockport, NY)

I have been gay my entire life. Being raised in a Christian home, I have wrestled with this for a very long time, trying to reconcile my homosexuality with the truths of my faith.

One thing I know is that God loves me and wants the best for me. All He requires of me is to be faithful and seek His perfect will for every area of my life. I now realize that though I am gay, I will keep myself undefiled and not participate in any promiscuous behavior. For me to be promiscuous is to shame and reject the very One whom I worship and put my trust in.

Based on what I understand of Scripture (my personal opinion), being gay is just another manifestation of our sinful nature that needs to be placed at the foot of the Cross. All of us sin and will continue to sin the rest of our lives, but my hope is that we will begin to sin less, though we will never be (sinless) until we meet our Saviour and Lord face to face.

Respectfully disagree...

I just cannot agree. I wonder if having brown eyes is part of my sinful nature, too?

You certainly have the right to disagree with me as I you, but eye color has nothing to do with our spiritual nature only our physical characteristics encoded by our genes.

Maybe you really don't believe in the scriptural concept of our sinful nature, or maybe like so many other gay christians you have decided that God made us this way so it is OK.

Maybe people who murder or steal from others were made that way too so let's ignore that behavior as well. Any way, you have a choice just like me to make and it looks like we both have made it.

Sinful Nature..not so much
by: Darren Theoret in Ottawa

Ed,

I thank God for your testimony but I can't agree that a same-sex orientation is part of your sinful nature. You are God's creation that he created for his own pleasure. Your sexual orientation is no more sinful than your choice of career.

You were created for a purpose and only God can reveal that purpose to you. Trust God and continue to live a Christian life but don't ever think that God made you a second class person. You are EXACTLY what he wanted to create. You are fabulous!

Facts are more important than opinions
by: Rick Brentlinger

Ed-

I don't think its fair of you to impugn Sparrow's beliefs the way you did. Implying that she rejects Biblical truths instead of presenting a thoughtful argument to support your position is counter-productive.

I'd love to see some factual discussion to support the opinions expressed here.

1. Why do you believe sexual orientation is/is not a result of the fall of Adam?

2. What passages of scripture inform your thinking that sexual orientation is/is not a result of the fall of Adam?

Many thanks for discussing this in a friendly, Christian manner.
"Let your speech always be with grace, as though seasoned with salt, so that you will know how you should respond to each person." -Colossians 4:6

"with gentleness correcting those who are in opposition, if perhaps God may grant them repentance leading to the knowledge of the truth," -2 Timothy 2:25

Jesus has the final word....
by: Sparrow

Ed-

If one's sexual orientation is a result of the inherent sin nature, then what do you do with Matthew 19:11-12?
"Jesus replied, Not everyone can accept this word, but only those to whom it has been given. For some are eunuchs because they were born that way; others were made that way by men; and others have renounced marriage because of the kingdom of heaven. The one who can accept this should accept it."

Nowhere in Jesus' explanation do I see the slightest hint or inference from the Son of God that ANY sin affects or caused the outcome when a eunuch (ie, homosexual) is "born that way."
